Freeze at Loading Saves (Steam Version)

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 6:43 am

Morrowind plays fine, I have no issue with the game play at all. I have no problem with loading screens, or getting off the boat - as it is - I'm playing on a Vista 64, and the game plays very, very well. Here is where the issue comes in, as I am using the steam-version of the game, I am sure that will have some affect on the outcome of this question and problem.

The problem lies when I go to load a game. I can see the saves, but when I click on one to load, the game freezes, locks up, and I have to use task-manager to shut it down. This is quickly becoming an irritating process for me, as I have heard that Dunmer's speech, and stolen that tray and key so many times already: Here is what I am wondering- is there a quick fix to make this work? (Steam has several such topics on their forums, but lo-and-behold Steam forums are down because they got hacked, which is- moderately irritating.

I would like to pre-thank anyone who has the time, and is taking their time to help me.

->I get no error box
->I cannot move the mouse cursor
->The game needs to be Task-Manager closed.
->I am using the steam version.
--->It works for everything but loading saves.
->I am using Vista 64
--->Everything works just fine, graphics, and everything.

You can use google to load cached steam forum pages.

Where is Steam installed? If its installed to the Program Files(x86) directory i may be the issue. Morrowind saves are located within the steam directory.

Well, I created a new character, apparently when I enter combat the game freezes as well. So the total list is up now. I don't know what to do, and I'm really just frustrated. Would installing something to patch the steam version work? At the same time- it is in fact in the x86, and moving it, yields no results. I just want to cry I'm so frustrated.

Have you tried verifying the game cache: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

I want to thank you for putting up with me through this, Nidhoggr. I wish you luck (while I'm trying these troubleshooting tips) in devouring Yggdrasill.

It found it was missing two files, upon starting up and trying to load, it failed to load, freezing. Seeing if combat works now...
Combat doesn't work either.

You might have to do a complete reinstall by deleting the local content and then re downloading. Of course I don't know if this is the issue and it will most likely take a while to download.

I re-downloaded as suggested, and encountered the same problems. Thanks for your help. I'm going to check steam-forums deeper to see if there is an answer already there. Have fun storming the castle.
