Freezing, Burning, Shocking

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 7:29 am

I'm curious if anything has been said about the effect of Frost, Burn, or Shock spells in Skyrim.

I would kind of like to see a system where, say launch a Frost spell at someone, they for lack of a better word.........well freeze.

I realize that you can't have a 1 spell = 1 kill system, but I did hear they animations for weapons, so why not spells?

If the spell is strong enough compared to the Opponent or maybe the killing blow (the last spell you cast which kills your opponent), the effect of that spell is them either freezing, burning, or being shocked. (Though I guess being shocked would equal a burning effect but same difference)

I just think it would be cool to see compared to just the Frost/ Fire / Shock spell landing and then the body flying off in a rag doll physics experiment gone bad. Maybe after you freeze someone you could even shatter the body? Cool maybe?

This would obviously be hard to implement and therefore I doubt it would be in the game unless they already planned to do so.

So:

1. What do you think?

2. Do they have anything like this already implemented?

I'd like any link you could provide on the subject, thank you. But yet this wasn't really what I was going for. Yes spells have effects, thats a given. I'm talking about visual effects on the NPC's.

Well there is a pic of a troll burning.

His caption would read either:
Owwww! This burns!
Or
This is Skyrim!

You saw the screenshot of the troll on fire!? I guess not... It's been said that fire will burn for some time when casted on to objects. Same goes for other spells...

From the aforementioned article "The Havok Behavior technology gives the spells more visual flair than we've seen in past Elder Scrolls games as well. If you cast a frost spell, you'll see the effects on the enemy's skin. If you're wielding the flame spell like a flame thrower, the environment will catch fire for a short while and burn anything that comes into contact with it."

Is this what you were looking for?

Oooooo yup yup thanks! Article was exactly what I was looking for!

Awesome!

Hopefully we don't have to see a perfectly intact body after launching 30 fireballs at it and seeing it float up in the air like a freaking balloon!

What would that be under, Mysticism? Remove undead from Conjuration summoning spells and add in a reanimation for necromancers, and Id be happy(just leave corpses in necromancer dungeons for NPCs to reanimate or something).

I think there was a mod for Oblivion... Supreme Violence, or Deadly Reflex. I think its included into Supreme Magicka now, but it gives spells a critical chance and those crits have special effects(like freezing or burned corpses).
