French Braid Hairstyle?

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 9:40 pm

I've been looking for a simple, medium length French Braid hairstyle, something like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a2/Braid01.jpg but I've yet to find any. Growlf has one that hangs all the way back to the feet, but it's far too long, and rather than looking like a simple, practical braid it's kinda schoolgirly. I was thinking more of a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BraidsOfAction (Obligatory warning: Tvtropes will eat up your day)

Can anyone make such a thing? Ideally it's work like a vanilla hairstyle: Plain (not anime like) simple, ealistic, with size and color changing-ness all enabled like, but I understand that's hard.

Also conforumulated.

Here are two other pictures, might be helpful:

One's a diagram, very useful, I think.

I love that style for hair.

Anyway, the only time I've seen it in Oblivion, that I can recall, is at the Goddess shop - but only as a wig!

Sorry, that probably doesn't help a great deal. I will keep looking, and trying to remember if anything else braid-y has appeared.

No, it's kind of you to say, but that's Growlf's model, which is too long (waaaay to long) and too... girly. Looks like something Pollyanna would wear.

One thing to note. Hair (as distinct from wigs) cannot be bone-weighted, so long styles are usually wigs instead. You just can't support length adjustment and bone-weighting at the same time.

If you're going to have a hair model using morphs only, then it needs to be short enough not to clip with the back when the actor looks up. The vanilla pony-tail styles all do that if you set them too long, and a braid like this that runs close to the neck would have those issues even at short lengths.

Bottom line is that the game really doesn't support what you're looking for, and you'll have to compromise somewhere.

Not sure what you mean. I don't WANT a long hairstyle, not at all. I'm not looking for something that goes all that farther down than the vanilla ponytail. I don't like ridiculously long hair; I'm looking for something a fighter might use (yes, long-haired fighters usually braid their hair) , something regular length.

I turned down Growlfs mesh BECAUSE it was TOO long. Long is bad, we're both agreed.

Also: are you THE Ghastley? Of the webcomic fame?

"Long" in this context means long enough to need the influence of the neck bone, which isn't very long at all. The vanilla pony tail hairstyles have the tail part hang away from the neck so it doesn't matter that they're rigid, but if you set them longer, they pierce the back when the actor looks up.

The webcomic you may be thinking of has no "e" in the name.

Ooooh, I so second this, and add me to the list! Oblivion modding focuses too much on showy, unrealistic hairstyles that would be of no use in combat. This would be wonderful!

Exactly what I meant! No one wants realistic hair, they want to look all bishie.

Well, my girl want to look like a practical sort, thank you very kindly, and it seems there IS demand.

There may be something similar to a french braid In either Cobl Races or Race Balancing Project one of the Saram Hairs

No, I've seen the Saraam hairs. They're all the unrealistic anime-style stuff I talked about. Not sure why you'd think it would have what I requested.

One of the problem is: if the hair gets long(I don't think any braid hair would be short enough not to be clipped, unless the hair forms a bun), it will look stiff, and of course, clip through the body, like any other Oblivion custom hairs.

Note: Not all of idkrrr's hairs are Anime-like stuffs. Some of them are based on Chosun dynasty royal court hair style or common female hair style at that time.

First: Like I said (I did say this several times) As long as the vanilla ponytail. The same positioning, same length, just braided.
.
Second: Which also has nothing to do with what I asked, and so is irrelevant. Sorry to sound terse, but people going off onto tangents suggesting things I specifically said I wasn't interested in is kind of a pet peeve.

Bump for the random generous modders who might just appear out of nowhere (or Tesa?) and decide, "Hey! This sounds like a great idea - I'll do it!"

Hm. What can I add to the icrecream already on offer... Um, how about a hilarious  to some truly ghastly :violin: music?

Okay, or not. I'll just pray that some modder out there has as great a love of this braid idea as I do. Or, you know, a kind heart, mad skills and plenty of free time...

Icecream, eh? That would be a suitable reward for a kind and brave modder, wouldn't it?

I think I saw pictures of a Princess Leia dress the other day on Nexus. NSFW or close, so won't link at the moment, but I am sure a simple search would lead you to that.

It has hair which I think was the French Braid style, though if it came from Growlf or not, I can't say because I am just not that into fancy hair and hot clothes :P
