48 hr frenzy from an Ultima Online and other veteran.

Post » Mon Mar 03, 2014 10:43 pm

The game is TES. The mechanics seem fine when they work. The game looks interesting as a TES game

But the bugs!! Ohh the bugs!!

Up to TWENTY attempts to log in was the norm.

Crashing to login on object interaction happened about 50x killing my char about 10x.

The causal lag was circa 1990s dialup and this time I was using 200ms ADSL(as opposed to 1200ms dialup and 14ms cable) which at 5k miles away I guess still cannot cope with those who have cable and live next to the server(hello all you hated PKs who drove 1000s from UO)

So my fellow player also did his best to ruin the game and take advantage of my (and other) lagged PC.

The other PCs were friendly in the combat but due to my lag chest theft was extremely common while if there was an enemy NPC in front of it they ALWAYS opened it while you fought him

this was Ultima Online in all of its nasty little prepubascent selfishness or the results of "Mr Nice" just roleplaying his villain and being a thorough anus. The number of times I lagged in opening a chest only to find it vanished was about 20. times.

In the early game chests are the ONLY way to gain magic items and the lagged are screwed totally.

The bank capacity for EIGHT chars was....THIRTY *^&%%$ing slots...one char alone filled it with enchanting runes. I guess the alchemist will just have to carry around his plants while his capacity for "EXPLORING" is limited to FIFTY slots. So don't go far.

Yes you can upgrade (1000gp for TEN bank slots and 400gp for 10 pack slots) Wow!! This is 1990s MMO bank capacity and EQ, EQ2 and WOW all have the bank done properly (and eventually even UO) with hundreds of slots.

I must have destroyed near 1000 items in that 48hr period

I can handle the ani as they are in every game and just like RL (they are OUT THERE) But with the lag advantage they come into their own in ESO and just dirty it with their behaviour. Sure its the usual excuse: "I am roleplaying a villain. What did you expect?"

But the crashes, the multiple login attempts required and the severe lag unless improved (and I guess the first two will be but I strongly doubt about the latter)) will be the deciding facts for this game as I am NOT going to spend time fighting some NPC for an anus to just walk in and steal the chest.

This game is NOT equal to all as those from distant places will suffer compared to those with cable and next door to the server. UO in all of its Lag glory. Sometimes no one looks and learns.

Seems everyone had different experiences with the game in terms of bugs and lag. I did have some lag, but never encountered any bugged quests.

There's nothing difficult to understand about this post unless this is your first time on the internet.

Yeah there's been a ton of bugs in the last few builds, and the lag in Cyrodiil was insaaaaannnneeeee but part of what we signed up for in stress test so meh.

Didn't have that many problems PVE myself, except for the odd UI pop-up error and crashes to desktop :(

It was not "frothing rage" but an exact critique of the results of playing for 48 of the 60 hours with eight chars (three major ones) on all three political groups.

Ebonheart was the most lagfree (relatively). Daggerfall the most lagged. The dominion were in between.

Ebonheart was very well done but I found the main quest :pushing" to be a little annoying as I missed too many side quests in the general "hurry" feeling.

They will probably "fix" the bugs that drove me almost insane at times but the bank capacity and the lag are my biggest concerns as the former ruins the game the latter ruins the experience.

It sounds like some of you are easily satisfied, or else, using cable.

Earl, his beer can open.

As for lag, even as someone in the US, I had problems, especially in Daggerfall. Good god that was awful.

A stresstest beta means they tighten the taps as much as they can with as many players online as possible. It's not rocket science. If there wasn't any lag or login issues, then the stresstest would be ineffective.

They have already stated that tons of bugs have been fixed in the most recent client. (the 'public' beta client we all played on is about a month old now)

The bank capacity, well, who knows about that, but that is currently as intended so I doubt that will be any different at launch, but we'll see.

Hmm, as someone in the EU (Netherlands to be specific) I only had issues with lag in Cyrodiil, Daggerfall (Glenumbra, Stross M'Kai) was perfectly fine for me, except after just logging in, then it would take a few seconds to load everyone.

As for my connection, due to me being stingy with money, I only have a 60/6 cable connection. I refuse to pay double from what I pay now for 500/500 fiber, and the 100/100 doesn't offer any significant improvement for me, as I don't upload that much.

I don't understand why people complain about bag/bank slots - it seems a lot more compare to older mmo's like Rift for example.

The main issue I've about ESO is in the core game design.

The Rift failed compared with other games because of this one feature.

In ESO there are loads of possible slot fillers and with crafting you MUST have room: end of story.

IMHO it looks like ESO are trying to shortchange everyone by the limited slots as it takes too much effort to actually give us what we need.

EVERY modded TES game had mods that increased loot stowage and yet they give us what? 50 + 30 slots?

Even UO when it started in the 190s had MORE bank storage than that.

IMHO this is shortchanged coding designed to force choice in a game which purports to allow it and ESO should be ashamed of themselves as by so doing they make it NOT worth the money(too late I already paid).

Next it will be the "player houses" for those who in RL do NOT have to look after one and hence, want one (like marriage said my husband : )) but the teenyboppers will demand one and they will get it

along with another 30 item slots...yeah!!

If the game version is anything like the BETA version was this past weekend, I don't think im gonna be to happy with it. To me its like when DAO came out with DA II, people played it, but didn't really like it. ES in the past games was a fun

rhythmic paced game, even when you were "TANKIN." Now with MMO it seems cluttered and impersonal. With as long as it took to get the game out and with technology as advanced as it is, there must be a way to make the game suitable for the different styles of play. The serenity style of play in the previous games is what made Elder scrolls a juggernaut and now they just took that away. Sneaking, Sniping with Bow or Spell, Pouncing out of shadows... that's whats up!!! Now you got people running all over your game. Also how the monster thing works?? If you get next to them they attack?????

If they could make an Massive MMO game and keep the elements of Skyrim, Obilivion and Morrowind... The stuff that made Elder Scrolls what it is, Then it would be Badass.

Option 1: Solo play Massive world building an army to go to war

Option 2: Play with a group in a massive world and build an Army to go to war

whats that??? That's insane because all the Solo players playing their own game would be taxing on servers???

Ok, perhaps

Then Option 3: Make Elder scrolls as Huge, as Large, as Massive as you can make it.. Which again... todays tech should be doable and not take away the integrity of what made Elder Scrolls, "Elder Scrolls." for the sake of having a bunch of characters running a muck on the screen.

I had zero problems getting into the game.

Except the night the server went down for maintenance.

...and the bugs. *shakes head* I don't see how people missed that this was an old build. I've read that at least 100 times in game and on the forums.

Who DOESN'T use cable? I managed to log in first time, every time. I had the occasional 3 or 4 second lag spike but other than that the game ran very smoothly. Pity some quests were a bit screwy, but there you go, nothing major. You have crap Internet, yet blame the game - seems about par for the course.

Zero problems? Lucky you!!

It does have something to do with proximity to server and connection speed as most of you kindly omit to mention.

Most of the "bugs" from my experience were ALL due to incredible lag and being kicked off although it was strange that

it was mostly associated with the Daggerfall covenant and only mild in Ebonheart. Some one explain that one to me

as it sounds like not all alliances were using the same core module. Although once off, reclogging was next to

impossible everywhere for us. But occasionally it was first go (about 5% off the time). Mostly it took about 3-5 attempts

but 30% of the time it took >20 (a real PIA with a >20 digit password)

Turn on auto loot and you will get your chest every time you unlock it. The lag was because it was a stress test of course and the bugs people so liked to complain about were the majority of quests that took you out of the auridon area, they were not bugged just turned off. EQ never had 100 slots if i remember right it had only 8 slots that eventually you had to put bags in to have any space, so no nothing was given to you, you had to work to get bags (spend gold farm whatever) as you do here, once you start playing its not hard to unlock the slots, yes at lvl 8 your not going to have the gold to do it. I think the whole weekend i make about 20k just running quests and killing mobs. People need to stop complaining that things are not free and just play the game, the gold is there you just need to play to get it.

Coggage posted:" Who doesn't have cable?"

90% of the world just in case you missed it. You arrogance is incredible. If cable were available here we all would grab it ASAP. But it isn't.

Dealing with people like you via dialup was a real pleasure in past MMOs.

BTW ESO was supposed to be a user friendly, connection irrelevant, international game, not a sinecure for spoilt gamers..

I have to agree with the previous quote to you, i live in a rural area and pay for 5 megs which i usually barely receive 1 meg and i didn't have any issues short of cyrodiil if i loaded into Auriel's Bow campaign, the others i had no issue at all with.

This lag issue is starting to sound like a personal problem. Especially because you told someone that they "must have cable" if they didn't have lag issues. If the issue is with your connection, it's hardly something ZO can fix.
