Frequent (every 3-10 min) crash to desktop

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:09 am

So, I'm having problems with random crashes to desktop during play. No other issues.

I can play anywhere between 2 to 15 minutes before the game crashes. I don't get ANY messages/dialogs. It just quits.

Checked details on my fallout4.exe and it seems im using version "1.1.30". So shouldn't be due to the "xaudio" thing others reported.

I get the problems with vanilla setup AND with (and without):

-ENBboost

-Downgraded/upgraded nvidia drivers (358.91 and 355.98)

-Fullscreen windowed mode

-Plenty of .ini tweaks

-Set Nvidia 3d settings to force "adaptive" vsync + some other graphics settings

Specs:

Gtx 770 2gb

16gb ram

i5-4670

Win 10 64-bit

Anyone else in my boat?

-----------------

SOLVED!!! By using Nvidia Inspector to downclock my base clock offset so that my "Est. max" matches my "boost" (was around -39MHz for me) the crashing stopped! Yay!

A very healthy segment of PC users are now experiencing this in one form or another.

I spent 3 solid days trying everything (even swapped out my PSU now)...nothing works at all. Even rolled back the game pre-patch and it still does the same thing. Only does it on this game though.

The best I can figure is that there's a recent Windows update (one of the 12-14 they dropped this week) that doesn't play well with Fallout 4 on some hardware configs.

I think the number of people having this issue is going up as windows updater is finally getting around to more and more people.

Thanks for the not so reassuring words! hehe.

Allright, so i guess its the case of having to wait until Bethesda gets their thumbs out of you-know-where and release a proper fix update. Unless they are too busy with their DLCs...

I was in this boat. Here is a possible fix:

Thanks for the tip. Ironically I used exactly that software (DDU) to remove my drivers when i upgraded and then downgraded the nvidia driver. I could _possibly_ (not certainly) testify that I had the same experience as you. I did get to play for longer before it crashed on me after I reinstalled to the older driver. But nevertheless it did eventually crash on me after 20 mins or so. So I'd say its, at most, a very very tedious method of getting a few extra minutes of play :/
