[WIP] Fresh Faces II

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:04 am

Well I got really excited after trying to make a redguard face and achieving a nice result - so thought I'd put together a few more faces and hairs

Am also adding hairs to the mod both male and female.

The hairs i've chosen are all Ren models from either Jenova's Children or converted from Mystic Elves (the ones Kateri didn't convert) - Ren was extremely generous in her readme's by allowing free use of the meshes and if anyone plays sims she has done beautiful hair mods for that game as well.

This is how things are looking at the moment

Screenshots are either in game pics running a vanilla game or from CS with lights turned on full - no photoshop touchups used.

I've tried making some new male hair as the original hair has me reaching for a helmet

The male hair mesh used is from mylochka who did a fabulous startrek themed hair pack the readme states
Hope you enjoy this model. I welcome input, comments,or even suggestions for improvements. Feel free to create new textures for this model and post them as a freebie.

The mesh has a flat uv map (not sure how to describe it better) anyway I haven't worked out how to prevent the curling around the ears so any suggestions are welcome - I also haven't worked out how to do the temple shape yet so I'm just roleplaying he has a medieval bowl cut :) http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/372/hairfineshortside.jpg

I decided to post this a WIP because I would like to get the hair line right before releasing and I'm drawing a blank on what to do for other edguard male faces - does anyone have any ideas or requests for redguard males? If I can find a suitable high res photo I'll give it a go.

Edit: I've started making some lists of the faces done so far so if you follow the thread and just want to see new faces I'll add the links here - I'm likely to get 2 - 4 done per week unless as each one takes @4hours

Thanks for reading

These are really beautiful and very well-done! :goodjob: And you made a Teal'c! The only thing about that face is that I wonder if that's the right head mesh to use. He has a very square face and smaller eyes, and the head almost looks too big for the body even though it's hard to get a good idea just based on seeing the shoulders and up. I'm by no means a head mesh expert, but that was the first thing I noticed.

As for a Redguard male - what about Kofi Annan?

Thank you Monica21 - good point on the head size - I used Robert's teen redguard mesh as I found the photo I ues fitted almost perfectly with eyes, nose and mouth on the teexture map - I scaled the head to 1.03 in nifscope otherwise he looks like ... well ... a teen. I've relooked at it and scaled it back to 1.0175 which gives it a more man size um ... size

nice suggestion - I've found some pics and will give him a go - he has such a 'lived in' face and I can almost hear those warm redguard tones coming from his mouth :) The beard might be tricky.

Great texture! The mesh might be a bit too oval for Koffi Annan, however. Currently his forehead seems to be 'stretched' somewhat.

Many thanks,

Amazing quality  . However, the way the texture is streched out on the mesh gives me a feeling that his head is too big.

I thought these were really good comments and made me go back and rethink the mesh i was using - I opened up better heads to see what meshes they used and saw they had flattened the nose of some and even used DE01 which is quite an angular dark elf mesh and tried adjusting that - I had never realised sam jackson was in the fighter's guild - after all these years of seeing his face I just never clicked.

Anyway i tried a variety of meshes and in the end came back to robert's - he just got the nose right - most other meshes have sharp noses and redguards have broad noses - well at least the photo sources I want to use do :)

So this morning I thought I'd give Koffi another go and this is how he turned out - http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4018/rgmh2.jpg - I spent about 5 hours on him and felt I improved his blending - he is a facsimile rather than original as I had to lengthen his nose - add a forehead as the source pic cut off at eyebrow height and trim his beard - however I think he works - the lighting is a bit harsh in the CS so in game he gets softened a bit.

Not sure why but the ladies are alwasy easier to do than men - I wasn't happy with one of my results the skin was like tequila sunrise so redid the texture with another source pic and this is http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7600/rgfh3.jpg

So only 2 more female Redguards and 4 males to go then i'll have a complete set - have already picked my next models to try so once I've got a couple more done will post the results

Still happy to hear suggestions for male redguard faces

Am still ticking along with my headpack

Am posting all the faces as I do them in the first post and will occasionally bump this for those interested.

Have completed the Redguard females - was very pleased to get http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/672/rgfh05.jpg from Firefly - it took a few goes but I think she looks fine

Am taking a break from Redguard males - have found it quite hard to find decent source pics - though still have a couple of faces to try.

In order to keep better compatability with hairs I redid some Breton faces and added another - for those who enjoy UK scifi, fantasy you might recognise these - unless i've really mangled them :)

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4664/bretongirls.jpg

Been amassing pics for doing dark elves - and some orc faces

While I'm going to be using these faces in my own mod - I thougt I'd check if anyone would be interested in me doing a seperate version as a pluginless head replacer like Vvardenfel Visages was? Hmm.. maybe I should just keep doing some more and see how many i get through - it looks like at this stage I might get about 40 heads for the pack.

Anyway if you have any thoughts or feedback am interested in your comments

Personally, I'd love this to be a pluginless replacer - the quality is exceptionally high. However, could you make a decent spread of ages and beauty (as far as the default heads slots allow)? The females are beautiful, but it would be great to see some older/less 'attractive' faces in the mix (ala the Kofi Annan head). Also, the lighting on some of the faces seems a little bright - Zoe's skin seems to be just right though. Keep up the great work!

wow, these are beautiful, like von djangos said, i'd like to see you do some older faces aswell

you doing ok with the current meshes you are using? sounded like you were having some trouble finding the right mesh for your faces
you could always ask someone to edit one of the face meshes to something you would prefer, it's pretty easy to do in blender or max, you just adjust a few vertices to what you want it to look like and setup the morph faces

oh and i'm from the UK, and though i don't really watch scifi or fantasy stuff (i'm always watching stuff like mock the week, live at the Apollo and top gear :D ) they definitely look familiar, especially the one on the left :stare:

Thanks for the encoragement Von Djangos - I'm glad you like seeing variety in age groups for Morrowind too - I'm not sure what my ratio of elderly will be to young but likely their will be more older men than women here is http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/6586/brf05.jpg let me know if that was what you had in mind

Thanks Dirnae - I've settled down with the heads so far however that was a really good suggestion for asking for help - if anyone is interested in doing higher res hair meshes for males that would be cool - I think I can create realistic looking hairs so don't mind doing the texturing myself but need some improved meshes so the hair can match the faces.

As usual I've update the top lists - one more breton female to go and maybe an older Breton for Socucius then I'll start on Dunmers

i can give it a go, though i'm not quite sure what you want, just higher res versions of the meshes you are using now (in which case a sub section mesh smoothing and some minor editing should be enough), or completely new meshes? and could you give a couple shots of what kind of hair you want?
feel free to PM me if you don't want the thread to get sidetracked

Also if you want to get some completely different hair meshes really fast, you could always go looking at the hair packs for oblivion, and if you find one you like, and you get permission from the author, i can convert it over for you

btw that ear curling problem you are having is due to a planar UV map from the sounds of it, i can have a go at making a new one for it if you want

Thats a very kind offer - thank you Dirnae

I wonder if you could have a look at these hairs then by http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=3938 they are quite good but have flat planes around the ears which make it hard for me to work out how to do a retexture.

Thank you CABRON - faces are such a personal choice I just know some of my faces won't work or appeal but the redguard females at least have all turned out ok

I've added some new faces to the first post - the initial Dunmer are up - the female is a bit airbrushed but I liked her eyes so picked her - have matched her eye colour to lips - it's not red but falls within my tolerance range for lore - I know the vanilla ones were firey red including the whites - I'm not sure I'll go beyond playing with the iris

Here's http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6362/dem01.jpg - he's come a long way since I first tried a Dunmer :)

Thank you Simbelmyne - I am finfing the Dunmer quite satisfying to do as the colour tends to be quite forgiving with blend lines - I spent some time looking at the original faces and I'm not sure why the designers cursed the femal Dunmer more than the men but the ash from Red Mountain seems to give them appalling skin condition - there are already some very good Dunmer faces which use ridges to make them more alien so I'm just going to do what feels right to me - each elven race will be based on a RL race to give me consistency in facial features - I would like my Dunmer to be a little smouldering if possible and I think the male is close to some of the original game faces.

Today i decided to try doing a new ear texture as I have wanted new elf ears for a while - it would be really cool if anyone wanted to have a go at doing a new ear mesh as we've had the current ones for some time now

Not sure if you can tell much from this http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3199/neweartexture.jpg - i know it's not a big deal in the scheme of things but I would like to do as many of the textures for this mod myself.

This is my second Dunmer female - I am on the look out for some more mature faces to add some variety however I just couldn't resist her eyes and mouth http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/2971/def02.jpg
