Friend's ATI 6850 Not good enough for Crysis 2?

Post » Thu Apr 14, 2011 6:12 am

Hopefully this won't get drowned by all the crybabies whining that C2 svcks...

Anyways, my friend bought crysis 2, playing single player maxed out, loves it etc etc.

When he goes to multiplayer (extreme settings) he gets some intense framerate loss, pretty much unplayable. He put his settings down to all low and it seemed to help, but still. His card should be able to smoke this game.

His system specs are as follows:

4 gig ram
Windows 7 64bit
ATI Radeon 6850
Intel Quad core clocked at 2.83
running at 1920x1080

Id like to stress that he can run singleplayer maxed out no problem, only when he switches to multiplayer does it give him trouble.

Any help, community fix, thoughts?

Thanks,

I have the same issue, and it's recent. Before installing 1.2 it ran beautifully on Extreme. Titanic framerate losses also seem to be caused by alt-tabbing, though that never was permanent. Right now not even a reinstall helped.

Yes. Really annoying. Hell, it's barely playable on High.

Try update driver.

AMD/ATI's cards are not "officially" supported :P

Hey sorry to hear you guys ended up buying AMD cards, it seems they always have issues like this all the time with drivers and games, hopefully they are able to figure out how to fix all these issues they always have but its been years now and still the same problems.

I have a Sapphire HD6850 and have no problems at all, never had any either. Not in the Demo, not now.

You can find my setup on my profile page, if interested. Also I'm using the 11.4 beta drivers, you can find them on http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst114earlypreview.aspx

If that doesn't work, maybe your friend's card is just broken, because again, I'm not having any problems at all.

Oh and btw at that Nvidia fanboi: you're of no help at all. Also atleast AMD doesn't produce graphics cards that are not even protected from catching fire... *cough* GTX590 *cough*

I had this issue a few times on my 5850, I found out it had nothing to do with game performance, but it actually had to do with network connectivity. In other words lag. Log into a good server with nice ping and no laggers and you'll see what I mean

I have a 6850 running with latest drivers and no probs pre or post patch so I don't think its a GPU issue.

Hey if you have a video open in the backgroun even if it's finished buffering this causes extreme lagg issues also using steam voice chat whilst in game causes crazy frame mess ups, that's all I can say for what causes frame rate issues when I experience them.

I have an ATI 5770 and my game runs perfectly on extreme, whilst recording gameplay in HD... so yeah....

Search the memory leak thread. I'm having issues with MP, too. SP maxed out (1080p/extreme) no FPS dropdown, fluently playable. In MP 2nd/3rd match I have low FPS, Lags etc.

Honestly, AMD cards are great. This is just one isolated case. At-least the company that makes our cards doesnt get sued every freaking day for making bad hardware.

Anyway, I have a Mobility 5850 and the game runs fine. If the newest drivers arent working for you, try rolling back to previous drivers. That may work.

Thanks for the help guys, the only thing thats really puzzling (besides the fact that its specific to multiplayer) Is that its immediate lag once he enters game. when he puts it down to low settings its now playable. But Extreme or lower still doesn't work for him. I really think its a **** .dll or something on crysis 2's side.
