Could people please remember this part of the instructions that come with RGO?
If you experience any issues with RGO, here is a wonderful method for helping me diagnose the problem:
1. Run OBSE and Pluggy alongside RGO.
2. If you encounter a problem, go to the RGO forum thread.
3. Post a copy of the RGODebugFile.txt that is located in your My Games\Oblivion\Pluggy\User Files\RGODebug folder.
Frankly, I don't blame Reneer for getting tired of repeating this page after page after page. The post "your mod is broken" helps no one and only serves to make people annoyed: the mod maker because you're not being the slightest bit helpful, and the mod user because the mod maker is ignoring your problem.

Haha, I found the pluggy readme and installed it. Sorry for not being able to have the RGODebug txt before.

I restarted the game with RGO enabled. This time the guards followed me as normal; however, the NPC Baurus still appeared outside of the jail after I paid my fine and the bounty went back up to 40 gold right outside the Imperial City Market gates (where I committed the crime)

I'm having some problems with RGO at the moment. I know i'm supposed to follow the above method of handling any bugs. On the other hand, i've heard a few things about Pluggy having some issues in itself, and i'm worried about it possibly ruining my saved game. As far as my RGO issue, i'll mention it in case someone has already had the same problem and discovered a solution already. There's been a few instances where i've had a bounty of 0, but when I try to wait, it says the guards are coming and can't wait. Also in those same instances, i'd sleep to try to remove that message, and when i've woken up, there would be an Imperial Warder laying on the ground. They're alive, but it's as if they're dead and just laying there. I also notice that sneaking around doesn't seem to attract the guards at this point. If someone has already found a solution or knows what i'm talking about, i'd be glad to hear about it. If not, as far as Pluggy goes, is it safe to install and would I be able to remove it to prevent any problems with it being used in my game? Sorry to go against the rules. I just wanted to check first before I did anything.

None of the issues Pluggy can cause are going to "ruin" a save game in any way. You can install Pluggy, replicate the problem, post the log(s) and then uninstall it again. If you're unnecessarily paranoid and don't believe that Pluggy won't ruin your saves, keep a backup of your older saves (which isn't a bad idea when adding new mods anyway).

While the debug text is helpful, the problem is figuring out where that gold came from - it could easily be a third-party mod adding that 40 gold. That's mainly the issue here - it is difficult to figure out where the crime-gold "originated" - if I didn't have to worry about third-party mods adding crime-gold I could simply disregard anything that RGO sees that doesn't come with an increase in PCMiscStat.

I'll look into it for 2.54 - maybe add in some more debug messages.

Pluggy won't cause you any trouble - I've been using it for a long time and never had an issue with my save-games. If you really want, just copy your save-games to another directory.

As for your problem... it doesn't seem like it is RGO's fault. I've never had an Imperial Guard just "lie down" in any of my playtesting.

Yeah, I figured it was possibly another mod causing something to happen. It's not a game-breaking problem anyway. Still a great mod and i'd definitely continue using it from here on in. Thanks for making it.

Im Having a little problem with the mod:
at a random point the game crashes.
reloading a savegame doesnt help, it crashes after the same time again.
this happened to me at different locations, all over cyrodiil...

I don't disagree with you. Not at all. And I know you're not lying. But RGO is involved in the CTD. You just can't ignore the fact that the game crashes with RGO installed, and doesn't crash without RGO installed. RGO certainly isn't the cause of the crash, but it contributes to it.

This is totally false. A savegame can contain bugs that don't go away (see my "Save File Forensics" recent thread for a good example) even if you make a clean save with only Oblivion.esm enabled, after following all uninstall procedures for the mods that have one. With a corrupt save, even if the RGO scripts are completely good they can reference a buggy guard and then the game crashes.
The only way to be 100% sure that a mod is buggy is to test it alone with Oblivion.esm + Shivering Isles + Unofficial Patches and start a new game. Or use a save that never had any mods installed.
People, you need to give Reneer a break.

Another issue that causes a lot of crashes (most notably the crash on exit or on load) is mods that delete vanilla references, and haven't had the TES4Edit 'Undelete and Disable' procedure applied. In my personal experience, that includes most quest and house mods. For instance, Origins of the Mages Guild and The Elder Council were mentioned above: they're known to contain a lot of dirty and wild edits and plenty of deleted references (dunno what's the situation now that Dragon Captions took over some of those mods). So they can produce many crashes when interacting with other mods.
This is again to show that if you add RGO to your game and crashes happen, it's not automatically RGO's fault.

Lastly, mods like RGO that works exclusively through script are load order independent. So, position relative to the Bashed Patch doesn't matter, what matters is the functionality of these other mods and how it interacts with RGO. Of course if you manage to build a messed up Bashed Patch or import part of conflicting mods in it, it can conflict with RGO, but that will happen no matter which one loads before the other.

Hopefully this helps to clarify some issues and answer some bug reports.

Hi I have a possible bug to report...

I'm in Bruma doing the "A Brotherhood Betrayed" quest where you investigate the supposed vampire hunter.
When I inform the investigator guard in the dead man's house of what I've found, he eventually says he's going to rouse the guard
and that I should meet him at the pub in an hour. After that if I try to rest anywhere the game CTD. Even if I disable the mod in-game,
using the configuration item, the game crashes. However, if I deactivate the mod in Oblivion Mod Manager, I can rest and continue the quest.

The debug file from pluggy has the following:

2011-1-12 - RGODebugFile - RGO Version: 2.53 956.894RenCrimeConfigTextEnglishScript: User pressed spacebar. msgbox = 0, msgbox2 = 0 956.894


The only time I press the spacebar is to talk to him. Maybe the issue has something to do with him ending the conversation and sprinting off.

Just unzip the RenGuardOverhaul.esp and the RenGuardOverhaul.bsa file to your Oblivion\Data folder, overwriting anything already there. Also, if you wish to use the new INI loading feature, you must extract the INI Files folder into your Oblivion\YuData folder."

Is "YuData" intentional? I don't want to assume you just mean "Data" and then screw something up...

Do assume. INI files for plugins are almost always installed in the Data folder or in Pluggy's folder, if the mod uses Pluggy. If you did install the INI to some random folder that RGO didn't know about, the worst that would happen is that a debug message would be printed to the console (or a log) telling you the INI file couldn't be found.

No, it's not intentional. It's a simple typo / cut and paste error that I didn't catch before releasing 2.53. You extract the INI file folder to your Oblivion\Data folder.

Reneer,

Ran into a bug in my install, not sure what's going on, so here I am. :) Basically, I can't turn off the "Guards Follow Player" option. I tried using the menu, and it never changes the "Yes" to a "No." Other menu options change and should be working. I also tried editing the INI file, changed the option to 0 and made the RGO plugin in-game reference the INI file, to no effect. I'm running 2.53, and here's my load order and pluggy dump. Any help would be appreciated.

Note: Possibly obvious, but in the pluggy dump, it shows the guard stops following; that's from me un-sneaking or sheathing weapon.

Potential Crash Bug Found:

Description:

Persistent CTD on start of Third Game Day (by Default "Last Seed 29") in heavily modded game (From fresh istall using Blade Of Mercy's Guide. Excellent stability otherwise). Attempted new game, no crash until after actually playing for three days (Resting in tutorial dungeon did not result in CTD). Attempted to change gameday via console with same result. Attempted to rest 24 hours with same result. Attempted Clean Save procedure as outline in readme, same result.

Problem Isolated to Reneer's Guard Overhaul v2.53 (by loading mods individually until crash was replicated. Verified by no crash after loading all but RGO. Three tests each.)

Possible Causes:

1) Failure to load Quest related to mod?
2) Re-spawn Error related to Mod (respawn timer set to default of 3 days)?
3) Use of "payfine" command on console (game still reads guard pursuit w/ lack of fine and eliminates rest and fast travel)

Remedies:
1) Attempting to roll back versions until problem is resolved (will edit post when solution is discovered)
2) Uninstall (Last Resort)

Personal Note:
I've been enjoying RGO since the first public release, and have always been pleased by what it adds to game play. I hope my concise bug report is sufficient to make the job of fixing the issue easier. I know that this issue will be resolved soon, and I look forward to returning RGO to it's rightful place in my Load Order. Thank you Reneer for your dedication and great modding skill.

Potential Crash Bug Found:

Description:

Persistent CTD on start of Third Game Day (by Default "Last Seed 29") in heavily modded game (From fresh istall using Blade Of Mercy's Guide. Excellent stability otherwise). Attempted new game, no crash until after actually playing for three days (Resting in tutorial dungeon did not result in CTD). Attempted to change gameday via console with same result. Attempted to rest 24 hours with same result. Attempted Clean Save procedure as outline in readme, same result.

Problem Isolated to Reneer's Guard Overhaul v2.53 (by loading mods individually until crash was replicated. Verified by no crash after loading all but RGO. Three tests each.)

Possible Causes:

1) Failure to load Quest related to mod?
Which quest? Why? None of the quests activate after three days have passed. Plus, there are only four RGO scripts that use GameDaysPassed, and none of them are Quests.
2) Re-spawn Error related to Mod (respawn timer set to default of 3 days)?
RGO doesn't do anything with respawning or the respawn timer.
3) Use of "payfine" command on console (game still reads guard pursuit w/ lack of fine and eliminates rest and fast travel)
PayFine should generally not be used in the console. If you are saying that you are using PayFine in this manner, that is likely your problem.

Remedies:
1) Attempting to roll back versions until problem is resolved (will edit post when solution is discovered)
2) Uninstall (Last Resort)

Personal Note:
I've been enjoying RGO since the first public release, and have always been pleased by what it adds to game play. I hope my concise bug report is sufficient to make the job of fixing the issue easier. I know that this issue will be resolved soon, and I look forward to returning RGO to it's rightful place in my Load Order. Thank you Reneer for your dedication and great modding skill.
Unfortunately your report offers little assistance in fixing this bug, especially considering that you are running 200+ mods at once. As I have stated in the past: Simply removing RGO from the load order does not mean that RGO is the direct cause of the crash. I'm not experiencing this 3-day bug and, as far as I know, few others are either. If I'm not running into it myself, and the bug is very nebulous (such as what you are describing), plus the fact that you're the only one currently reporting it to me, that all means I have almost zero chance of figuring out how to even identify the bug, let alone how to fix it. Unless you can further pinpoint the situation that is causing this crash, I can't hope to fix it.

Hmmm. Actually, I'm not sure if the two are incompatible. It's been a long time since I tested any mods with RGO.

The Disguises were removed when I recreated the mod from scratch for version 2.5. I can add them in again when I get the chance.

... I didn't even know FCOM had regional bounties, for one. :P

As for game-breaking bugs... none that I've been able to verify. Some people in the thread insist that RGO causes CTDs, but I don't run into those. Are there bugs? Sure there are. I try to fix those when I can... but if there was a srs bug, I'd fix that as quick as I could.

And the 2.5 recode was essentially me getting fed up with the various subsystems of RGO fighting one another and so I created another ESP (RenGuardOverhaul2.5.esp) which was later renamed RenGuardOverhaul.esp so people wouldn't go crazy with old versions play havoc with the new one.
