so far I've always used your guard overhaul and never encountered serious problems, until now. after updating this mod, my game started crashing at a certain point during the bruma quest "a brotherhood betrayed". after the guard told me to meet him at the inn in 1 hour to arrest the alleged vampire hunter, oblivion crashed each time I tried to wait. no matter whether I "quick waited" or just stood around for 1 game hour, the result was always a ctd. after deactivating RGO, everything went back to normal.

all I did was updating obse to v19 and overwriting old RGO with the new one. now I'm kinda reluctant to install it again, because I have a number of open quests where guards may be involved as well.
I don't know what might be causing this CTD - though, to be honest, as I've said in the past I'm sure the sole cause is not RGO itself but rather a combination of mods. Unfortunately if I can't figure out what is causing the CTD I can't fix it. Where you running version 2.53?

hey, thanks for the quick response. first I was running 2.52 but after seeing the update, I immidiately updated to 2.53. the thing is, I've already progressed to this particular quest stage before installing the update. all I had to do was talking to the guard. he left as usual and after 1 hour oblivion crashed.

you're probably right about various mods affecting RGO. I'm going to add my load order here, though some mods were recently installed (after I already removed RGO). those mods are TIE and Better Cities. StealthTweaks.esp is my own little modification of some stealth related variables, like higher backstab bonuses and better combat evasion.

Reneer,

I am having the same issue. This is an awesome mod and I really want to find out what is going on. Right now, when it hits midnight on the second day of my game it will always CTD. I have tried sleeping through midnight, waiting through midnight and traveling to a completely different location and everytime the game CTD's. Once I removed Reneer's it stopped crashing. So apparently, some calculation the mod is making a midnight is not working well in my configuration. I do have quite a few mods loaded.

Without Reneer's everything seems fine right now.

On another note, I had to remove Origin of the Mages guild because it would cause a crash everytime I died and tried to reload from a previous save. Game would always start up fine but could never reload afterwards. Annoying because I die A LOT!

Thanks for a great mod! I wish I could figure out what is wrong with my setup.
I have no clue what is causing the CTD issues. You are both running very large mod lists and there is no way for me to determine what in RGO - if anything - is directly causing the crashes.

So that's what's causing "A brotherhood betrayed" crashes in my game. I would post a mod list but I am in the process of reinstalling my game, I lost the voice sound and could not find out why after two days of e-bugging I gave up.

The problem is first that RGO doesn't do anything on a timed basis, except remove crime-gold from the player. Even if RGO did things on a timed basis more, it still wouldn't help me diagnose the problem, since I'm not experiencing it and likely it is being caused in part by other mods. If RGO was the sole culprit, I'd be experiencing this exact same CTD issue, which I'm not. Obviously removing RGO changed something - but there is no way of knowing what.

Reneer,

I am having the same issue. This is an awesome mod and I really want to find out what is going on. Right now, when it hits midnight on the second day of my game it will always CTD. I have tried sleeping through midnight, waiting through midnight and traveling to a completely different location and everytime the game CTD's. Once I removed Reneer's it stopped crashing. So apparently, some calculation the mod is making a midnight is not working well in my configuration. I do have quite a few mods loaded.

Without Reneer's everything seems fine right now.

On another note, I had to remove Origin of the Mages guild because it would cause a crash everytime I died and tried to reload from a previous save. Game would always start up fine but could never reload afterwards. Annoying because I die A LOT!

Thanks for a great mod! I wish I could figure out what is wrong with my setup.

I reported this same midnight-crash issue a while ago. It appears to be some sort of conflict between RGO and The Elder Council. Running both at the same time sometimes causes the crash at midnight for me. The Elder Council is not supported anymore, but disabling RGO temporarily, waiting past midnigh, and re-enabling is a feasible workaround.

How long have you been playing after disabling it, waiting past midnight, and enabling it again?

I will also try getting rid of the Elder Council. I would rather use RGO then it. Both would be nice of course.

I consider my game pretty much broken after this mod.

I have the steam version of the game with OBSE 0019. I have no problem getting the Guards to stop following me once I stop sneaking and having a weapon out in town. Also, if you follow the directions that are posted on the first post in this thread I'd be much obliged.

And if you really consider your game broken after encountering one little bug, you could turn off the mod.

Im pretty sure this has been pointed out before, but in some versions of Wrye Bash (im using the latest and still have this) RGO will be set as virtually active and will not work until you simply check it active as you normally would. i just wanted to comment because people tend to usually have a large mod setup and when something is bashed as virtually active we leave it alone unless noted otherwise like All Natural mod that notes you have to activate two of them instead.

Well NOW I can edit my posts...

Even if I'm out of line of sight from EVERYONE in town, if I either sneak or have my weapon out, a guard will come running from nowhere and follow me until I stop sneaking/put the weapon away. If I'm near a city, out in the woods, the same thing happens. Like I said before, I can't change this behavior with either the in-game settings OR the config file. One thing I haven't tried is reinstalling OBSE. I'll do that now.

Unfortunately, when I turn off the mod, the save no longer works (crashes the game). Disregard what I said about 'breaking the game.' I was already have a rather frustrating day.

Ok, that's interesting. Not totally surprising - I suppose I need to put more checks on the package(s) or add more checks into the Guard's script for 2.54, whenever I get around to it.

I think I fixed my issue. Here's what I did:
Went to my saved games folder and changed my quicksave.bak file into a different save so I could proceed down a different line in a quest
Killed someone
Spent time in jail to cover the 1040g bounty

Guards no longer follow me while I'm sneaking or while I have my weapon out. Additionally, the log file is showing more:

Si it normal that every guard, whether be in the city or the ones patrolling the roads follow me around everywhere if I have my weapon drawn ? I't's quite annoying to have a guard follow me in a dungeon.

Is it normal that "Bribe the guard" show up in dialog with guards if I haven't committed any crime? I don't see anything about that in the readme.

i believe its so you can bribe them to move to a different location (like if they are standing by a store you want to rob).

I have a problem with this mod, it seems. I would be happy with how it works by default, but it conflicts with supreme magicka, creating red magic effects and sounds around everyone.

Now, I know about the option to change the visual effect for the mod, but it simply isn't working. Actually, nothing I change in the configuration menu or the txt file seems to work. Even if I choose to disable the mod in-game, it first says nothing, then, after some time, after I've visited the menu again, it says that the mod has stopped... But it keeps working, guards follow me if I sneak/draw my weapon, the red mist effect keeps appearing.

Switching to loading from the ini file doesn't seem to work either, it changes nothing. It doesn't help that nowhere is it mentioned which spell compatibility value corresponds to which visual effect.

The menu sometimes also loops, but I can turn it off by pressing space before selecting an option, then.

The "Mergan patchan" file contains just various armours and weapons mods I merged together, disabling it changed nothing.

Yes, but they shouldn't be following you into a dungeon. I'll add in a check to make sure that that behavior only occurs inside the cities.

I have a problem with this mod, it seems. I would be happy with how it works by default, but it conflicts with supreme magicka, creating red magic effects and sounds around everyone.

Now, I know about the option to change the visual effect for the mod, but it simply isn't working. Actually, nothing I change in the configuration menu or the txt file seems to work. Even if I choose to disable the mod in-game, it first says nothing, then, after some time, after I've visited the menu again, it says that the mod has stopped... But it keeps working, guards follow me if I sneak/draw my weapon, the red mist effect keeps appearing.

Switching to loading from the ini file doesn't seem to work either, it changes nothing. It doesn't help that nowhere is it mentioned which spell compatibility value corresponds to which visual effect.

The menu sometimes also loops, but I can turn it off by pressing space before selecting an option, then.
Ok, first of all: The INI file is an advanced feature - maybe next release I'll add in some documentation. It looks to me that your load order is all sorts of messed up - try running BOSS.

My advice for everything else (except for the red clouds, there is nothing I can do about that, honestly): try clean-saving the mod (instructions are in the ReadMe).

The red cloud issue is just something that I can't fix because it is entirely out of my control - lots of magic mods will modify the so-called "no effect" magic effects (darkness, lock, Bound Armor Extra 1-10, etc) to add in their own visual effects. I can't do anything about it if people run mods that modify all the "no effect" magic effects to use visuals.

I also encountered a problem with this mod. All was fine for about a week, and then it started giving me CTD's. I would get a CTD after about 4-5 seconds after loading a save game. It's weird because I never had an issue with it. I went to Bruma and started getting crashes.

This mod does not cause CTDs on its lonesome. If it did, why don't I get CTDs every 4-5 seconds when playing / playtesting?
