From Skyrim to Oblivion (How I've missed you)

Post » Thu Sep 13, 2012 6:43 pm

So after hundreds of hours in Skyrim, the disgust and disappointment in how the ps3 player base is being treated finally overcame the magic of the game and I got rid of it. While at the store, I noticed the GOTY for a very reasonable price, and I went for it. I'm an avid Elder Scrolls fan, having been with the series since Daggerfall, and I have kept a game of the series at hand since then. After creating my high elf from Skyrim in the land of the Imperial City, I delved into the first dungeon. And my god I was smiling the whole time. The atmosphere, the characters, the sweet sweet complexities of leveling, the jaw dropping forests and landscapes, and most importantly, the availability of dlc and the lack of game ending glitches have kept me immersed and role playing in a manner I've not experienced in 5 years. Oh Oblivion, my long lost friend, I am sorry I ever abandoned you. Any other Oblivion players experiencing this elation after their adventures in Skyrim?

'Cor, imagine how you'd feel if you tried Morrowind.

Just kidding you. :) Really, each of the last four ES titles is unique in its way, and has its adherents. They're all excellent. Glad you've got one you truly enjoy.

Welcome back to green and warm Cyrodiil!
I hade the same experience but with Morrowind - I transferred from Skyrim to MW and had an amazing experience. But now my Bosmer protagonist in MW is at a vacation in one of Ashlander camps so I switched to Oblivion and guess what - I'm planning to stay here for a long time.

From reading the forums it sounds like Bethesda seem to have really botched the PS3 version of the game. I feel bad for folks having a hard time with that version and who have no access to any other version. Hopefully they'll get the problems straightened out in time.

Anyway, welcome back. Oblivion has charms that no other game in the series posesses. It is quirky, unique, aggravating and beautiful, by turns. It is one of a kind.

I combed Morrowind for 2+ years. Same character the whole time. It did have some amazing elements. But the first time I saw the forests of Oblivion I was amazed. Now don't get me wrong, I adored Skyrim as well. I just couldn't shake the feeling it had lost something in the transition. I still can't place exactly what that something is, it's more than the colorful landscapes or changed mechanics, it just felt less inspired, I suppose. Hell, I even missed the abomination creator of Oblivion. I wrestled with it for an hour and a half before I found a combination that didn't look as though I had mouthfuls of gum. But yes, it is great to be back. Now if I could just stop trying to sprint and shield bash.
