Frost shield - resit frost and shield all in one?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:04 am

Hey there,

I have a character who is basically a Frost Witch, who uses Frost as her attack and defense. Now I suddenly realised there there were three effects that seemed to overlap and I am wondering if Frost shield is the ultimate one to use. see below

- Resist Frost - does what its says, simple.

- Shield - up's armor protection but no elemental damage resist.

- Frost Shield - Does this stack with the resist frost protection offered by Resist frost spells? (UESP says frost shield offers resist frost) and also does it bump up the armor protection like Shield does? Because if it does what resist frost and Shield does then surely Frost Shield is far better??

As far as I understand the uesp frost shield doesn't grant any armor. Instead it damages nearby opponents. Also, I'm not sure if they stack but I think they will.

Yes, this is how it works as far as I know. So fire/lightning/frost shield is always superior to the normal shield effect.

You're sure? It doesn't say anything about that on the uesp.

EDIT: I just checked ingame. Frost Shield doesn't visually alter armor rating at all. It might have some invisible effect or perhaps it's a glitch but at first sight there isn't any effect.

Would like a little clarification on this:
Do the elemental shield spells cause damage? I've never seen this... (that doesn't make it true/false, tho)

It's supposed to, according to UESP at least. Never noticed ingame though.

[...] Secondly, enemies next to the casting character will be damaged at 1 point elemental damage per 10 points spell strength.

Hmm... Maybe I was confusing it with Oblivion? :P

Yep. I seem to recall having a lightning shield from alchemy abuse that had a comical effect- apparently hitting me would send some wicked electrical feedback to the aggressor. I should name it Instant Karma.

It does damage... here is the morrowind link... http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Frost_Shield

And what is says...

This effect does two different things. First, it provides M% Resist Frost, thus reducing Frost Damage by M%. Secondly, enemies next to the casting character will be damaged at 1 point elemental damage per 10 points spell strength.

So an elemental shield spell lessens damage taken from each specific elemental type plus damages opponents who attack you? Does this damage occur with both melee and ranged attacks or just melee?

hmm I am not sure.

I think it only damages those close enough to "touch" the shield.

Wish I had morrowind installed so I could test that one out, currently I am in the middle of playing through Dragon Age. If someone could test that out and let us know that would be great because it would give those with the spell an extra edge against ranged enemies who might be out of sight and firing arrows at them. Man, just coming back to the forums makes me want to get back into the game again and I have been playing it since it came out lol. Never gets old
