Frost Troll strategies

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:03 am

Hey I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to kill a Frost Troll.

Because every time I see one I am just mindlessly hiking across a snowy mountain when BAM! one just jumps out at me.
Now I'm not saying I'm a noob or anything, I can handle one, most of the time. But the things are freaking tough and annoying.

So I was wondering if you guess could share some strategies on how to kill a Frost Troll.

The only strategy is "do not allow it to approach you". You'll have to be creative. ;)

Kill it with fire. From as far away as possible.

Running away is a good plan. Unrelenting Force can push them off a mountain. Otherwise, your bow is your friend.

Paralysis poisons and the bow mentioned before, together with a good pair of legs works for me too :D

Hit it three times with your legendary Skyforge Steel Greatsword...

Never had any problems with Trolls, unless they are forum trolls.

I start with tossing Soulsteal on them followed by a few swift hits with my
2H sword and that's the end if it and a free soul for me.

I am lvl 30, but i've ran into troll around lvl 20 and didn't have a problem.

If you have problems with Trolls, you aren't gonna last long against some Thief-leaders
because they spank the living crap out of me, rather fast.

If you are high level enough, Frost trolls become like pizza to you.Fire speels are exelent to make them stop regenerating health. Also if you are a thief....Backstab them.

my method is simple use Flames spell and sword and backup. he will come at you and continue to take damage

while you back up. if he gets too close use the sword.

you can also soul trap him first.

Fire-enchanted, heavy-damage two-handed weapons. Or, strafe n' snipe with a fire-enchanted bow while shouting fire-breath.

Any method involving fire is really the trick. Trolls no likey the fire.

I must be way overpowered because I play on master and I can kill one with one arrow or about two or three sword hits. Actaully now that I think of it there is nothing that can stop me in Skyrim. Even elder dragons are killed in under ten hits tops, bow or one handed. I think I'll go back to weaker armor and less powerful swords.

Firebolt + the destruction perk that stuns opponents when the spell is dual-wielded.

Trolls (except forum trolls) are weak against flaming (forum trolls eat flaming). So use fire, bows, poison, and other types of things that people already sugggested which I'm just reinforcing.

My solution was to come back after you've levelled a little bit or have better shouts. I ran into my first Frost Troll at L8 and got the snot beat out of me. Later on with smithed equipment and 10-20 more levels they were easy enough to beat.

Find a steep slope, stand uphill of the frost troll - FUS RO DA

Problem solved. Creatures don't have to FALL say, 30ft. The damage is calaculated based on how far from the point it fell to the point it stopped falling, on a steep slope a mob might tumble and slide 50 or 60ft before stopping - once the damage is calculated it suddenly recieves like 1,500 falling damage.

This strategy even works on giants

Plus the added effect of seeing them cart wheel down the slope is hilarious

I can go toe-to-toe with one. I can survive two at a time (Hag's End, anyone?) with a bit of cleverness. This is with my current character, dual-wielding swords (Epic Dwarven and Epic Elven) with light armor (Epic-grade Scaled Armor) and a companion with the same, except 1h/shield (Epic Elven). My character wears no helm, my companion does. I also have the difficulty down at 2 (whatever that is called in words, one notch above lowest).

Speaking of trolls...

First off anyone past level 50 can vouch and say the game gets really easy. When I first started out I could not even kill a frost troll without a very well thought battle tactic. Now it's incredibly easy.

It's how it is man. I have blacksmith clothes and I use potions to make my weapons and armor very powerful. I'm also talking about sneak. If I'm not sneaking then it takes a little longer but not by much. Plus with my enchanting I can put two enchantments on each item so my now that is a deadric has right around 200 power plus I have deadric arrows which are 26 damage, also with enchanting my I have around 120 or 160 extra percent for bow damage. I'm telling you the thing is very very powerful. Not sure if you know this but when you smith you can actually smith a ton higher than the first legendary number you hit. I have gloves, blacksmith clothes a ring and necklace that adds 100% smithing. Plus I'm only one of many that says master is very easy.

I just downgraded my armor to darkbrother hood and my weapaons to steel so it can be a challenge again.
