Frost unrideable

Post » Mon Sep 14, 2015 4:38 am

Hello, new problem! XD

Some months ago I had installed a good number of mods, included the one called "Convenient horses". It was really useful for the features it introduced, but after some time the horses I owned have become not rideable, Frost included. I'm sure I have messed up a lot skyrim while installing and uninstalling the mods! Now I've returned completely to Vanilla (+official dlcs), but the problem remains, even after removing the entire game and reinstalling it.

have you tried on a new save file?

even after you disable a mod, the scripts still linger in your save file regardless.. if its a mod that caused the issue, to get rid of it you need to either start a new game from scratch, or reload a save from before you ever installed the responsible mod in the first place..

Have you uninstalled Convenient horses the right way, as the author describes on the main mod page ???

Before you uninstalled that mod, you could just (try):

To spawn a new Frost horsie with: player.placeatme 00097E1Em, and disable the old one with: MarkForDelete

Now as it seems, it's like funnybunny described above: if u use your old save on a new vanilla Skyrim game, your save contains scripts from your previous modded Skyrim.

Well, I didn't know there was a procedure to follow to uninstall it, I simply unchecked the box from the "Data files" folder available at the Starting window. I don't remember the last save I did before installing that mod; as I said it happened a lot of time ago, and since I got Arvak I didn't feel any urge to use Frost or my other "common" horse I bought at Whiterun stables. Anyway, that save would be very early in my exploration history, so I don't want to loose all my "experience" since the problem started.

Well, that's how you uninstall that mod properly.

Uninstallation (*for making a clean save when upgrading see troubleshooting section below):

IMPORTANT: Before uninstalling the mod disable it via console (StopQuest CH) or scripts will remain in your save!

  1. Open console and type (StopQuest CH) to release all running scripts. Make sure you DO NOT do this while factions are being updated or any other mod actions are in the process.
  2. Save the game to a new slot. All previous saves made with the mod active are considered to be dirty saves and are not safe to be used with any newer versions of this mod released in the future.
  3. Uninstall the mod.

*Save Game Cleaning:

  1. Load the save you want to make clean.
  2. Release the running scripts by typing in console (StopQuest CH).
  3. Overwrite the save.
  4. Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 for all saves you want to make clean.
  5. Disable/Uninstall the mod in mod manager.
  6. Load the saves you made in step 3 and overwrite them again one by one, this time without the mod being loaded.
