[RELZ] FROSTCRAG REBORN V 3.0.5

Playing this now, and it looks amazing! :)

Two questions:
1) Does Thomas have a "Welcome to Frostcrag Spire" dialog? If not, any chance of adding one? When I showed up he had no reaction, just a standard greeting and a Mage's guild rumor. Something like "Welcome! The Master told me you'd be coming to take over. I am Thomas, your major domo. There's much to be done, but I will help you in any way that I can" would be enough. Just enough to let me know who he is and what he's doing there.

Um, if his lack of any dialog is a bug, please ignore the above.

2) Is there a way in the mod (as opposed to the construction set) to restore more of the Alchemy garden? The waterfall is very cool, and there are some ingredients on the landings, but I miss Frostcrags old one stop shopping gardens. Or am I just rushing, and the garden can be restored later?

As far as balance is concerned, super-tough enemies aren't as much of a worry as all the free weapons and armor when you first get the place. I liked the quest related items and useful furniture (like the Orb of Intelligence or the Alchemy Station); I just don't feel like I did anything to earn the two magic swords or the high powered amulet. I'd rather find them later on enemies. For that matter, I never though my character did anything to earn the ring of the sorcerer in the original vanilla Frostcrag Spire.

Installation step by step:
1. Install the official DLCfrostcrag from Bethesda
2. Backup the official DLCfrostcrag.esp and move it out of your Data folder, leave everything else installed by the DLC alone (ie. the .bsa file)
3. Download the Mod v3.0.5 full release (NONCOBL if you don't use COBL)
4. Using the Archive either, (A)make an OMOD and install it, ( B ) Install it using BAIN, or ( C ) Manually extract the files into your Data Directory
5. Optionally you can now use Wrye Bash on it as well
6. Play the game with your brand new home installed.

I hope this solves your problem, I have never had the slightest issue when using the above installation method.


I followed your steps and again still crashes when I try to load from a saved game. if I start a new game it loads fine. Any suggestions

Make a clean save,,, a save that is created when frostcrag is not activated at all in your load order. Then try to load from that save after activating frostcrag.

This Damn door has been my bain for quite some time...I don't know what its problem is, but I can't quite seem to get it corrected... I will see what else I can do to fix it.


It may be a collision issue where the door is too far inside the space where it is. I don't know for sure without looking into the CS though. Not sure if that made any sense.

Nice video Indefiance, I never grow tired of hearing those songs.
I have isolated a little bug I hadn't noticed before, basicaly because it was my first Sundas at Frostcrag.
When I used one of the spells from the mana well (I don't know if it was Leap of Power or another one, or maybe both since the scripts for them are too confusing for me) Some attributes like speed and agility are fortifyed by 300. This is a bad idea since attributes in Oblivion can only reach 255, so when an ability fortifies them over this they simply revert to 0 and the difference "ability -255" is the final score of the attribute. Since the Overlord's gear and some other abilities already fortify attributes greatly, I suppose that a magnitude of 70-100 would be quite right (if your speed is too high you end up being unable to do "delicate" movements anyway). Also, do these abilities from script effects wear off with time? As I said, I have looked into them but they are so long that I can't understand them globally, and they do odd things like dispelling all effects onto me or something that looks like levitation.
And I have just started work on the new Cobl plugin, lets see how it turns out!


Ok...I didn't knwo that about the engine. Will fix it for the patch...the effects you recieve from the mana well wear off over a three day period. The spell effects wear off immediately If I can remember correctly. It has been a long time since I looked at those scripts since they were released in v 2.2 over a year ago.

My travel portals are messed up. The bruma portal appears on the steps leading to the main door. The other mage's guild portals seem to be missing.

I have the GOTY edition. I'm using OOO, MMM, SupremeMagicka, and a handful of other less likely to conflict mods. I don't have the unofficial DLCFrostCrag enabled, but do have the other unofficial mods. I did a three day way, installed FrostCrag Reborn, and then went to look at it.

Worse than the messed up portals is the fact that right after loading Reborn, an attempt to wait for three days causes a CTD.

I'm hoping I made some noob mistake that's been seen before. Any ideas on what I need to do to fix?

This is a problem with a save which was not cleaned of all frostcrag material. The Fix: go to somewhere away from frostcrag. Uninstall everything to do with frostcrag. Go in the game, make a save without frostcrag. Reinstall the original frostcrag. Go to your data directory and either delete or backup and move DLCfrostcrag.esp from that directory. Touch nothing else (ie. dlcfrostcrag.bsa). Install my mod. Start your game with the clean save. If this doesn't work, your having other issues, and should possibly try a brand new game as a test to see if the problem persists. If it is fixed you will know that it is something wrong with your save. If it isn't you will know it is something wrong with your installation, such as load order, or incorrect installation.

Thanks. That might have done it. Or, mayb almost did it. The odd portal on the steps is now gone and the exterior has a nicer look. I thought I'd followed that procedure, but I had previously done the clean save from outside near IC, not within a city. More likely, the issue was that I apparently forgot to disable an FC mod provided by herbalism.

I don't see any of the mage's guild portals outside of the living area's metal door though. Even a new game doesn't show them. Every thing else looks OK. So, I still have something wrong. I'm a little over 100 hours into my first game. I could consider a completely fresh re-install and a new character, I suppose.

The portals should be in the normal place, right?

Yeah, the portals were repositioned, but not moved. If your not seeing them and you have everything installed correctly, and started a new game...I don't know what would be causing this.

No, I don't plan on making an OMOD version right now. Just take the 7zip, and make an OMOD out of it, should take less then 5-10 mins depending on your processor speed.

Ok, after some tedious work, I found out the culprit, though the results are somewhat unexpected... it was Supreme Magicka, as soon as I deactivated it, the ctds went away. I dont really know why it happens, and I dont know why noone else here is having that same problem (since both are mods for mages mostly, after all), but I cant find any solution to it... any ideas?

EDIT: Okay, Im still not sure what the problem is, but I did manage to find a solution. In the SM ini, I activated SMDebugMode1, and that took care of the ctds. Ill just play through the deepness like that and deactivate it later (it doesnt seem to affect the game that much, at least not at first sight, the fights are still a pain in the ass and such...). If anyone is willing to investigate some more be my guest, but Im relatively happy with this results.


Just wanted to confirm this.

If I go in the console before I enter the Deepness and enter set smdebugmode1 to 1 everything seems to work fine in the Deepness. When I exit the Deepness, I enter set smdebugmode1 to 0 in the console, everything seems to work fine.

I have no idea what smdebugmode1 does for Supreme Magicka, but it's been the only work-around that seems to work.

Very nice mod btw! One of my very favorites.

v 3.0.6 patch and full download has been released as well as Migck's Cobl implementation at www.frostcragreborn.com Just check under the downloads section for further instructions. Let me know if you encounter any errors or problems updating. I don't forsee any problems, but you never know.

I would try just using the patch download, and then getting the cobl download as well... The esp that comes in the cobl download just needs to be loaded after DLCfrostcrag.esp . If after installing you get extremely dark lighting and the brumatesthouse error, you need to just move both down in your load order till the problem goes away.

Sorry, I've been unable to say this before!!! I forgot to warn about the technical details of updating to the new Cobl plugin!!!
If you were storing anything in the Cobl sorter from a previous version of Frostcrag Reborn, remove it from there before updating or it will be lost!
If you had already bought the library or bedroom upgrades for Frostcrag before updating, what is supposed to be there from the Cobl plugin won't appear. You have to do the following:
1) If you had already bought the library upgrade, go to the middle round table near the bookshelfs, click it in the console, then enter "disable" and without exiting the console enter "enable". All what is there will disappear with "disable" command (don't panic!) and then reappear with "enable" command, together with the Cobl stuff.
2) If you had already bought the bedroom upgrade, go to the bed and do exactly the same.
I'm sorry about this. The only way of overcoming all of this was to create a quite complex quest script, and my modding skills don't reach that far.

Ill add this to the Install instructions...I should have thought of it myself, as I had to go through this exact procedure to see the upgrades when i was testing it out, I just spaced it when I uploaded the file. Thanks for the reminder.

I am having the same CTD issue as some of the users above me. Whenever I try to enter the chamber that branches off of the long spiral stairs, my game immediately crashes. I, however, am not using Supreme Magicka. I do have OOO 1.3 installed, if that makes any difference. I really love this mod, and its a pain that I'm unable to continue playing it due to this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

As far as I know, I haven't received any quest updates when I found those notes either. You just have to explore some more, I guess.

Sounds like everything is proceeding as planned. There are barely any quest notifications in this mod... most of what you need to do can be found in various books that you find throughout.

It seems I suffer from same crash issue when entering the deepnes. I have both Supreme Magika and OOO. I wonder how I can help to track the reason of this crash ? I have no experience in debuging oblivion mods, but it I can help just give me some hints what informations would be helpful in this case.

I am still having that issue with a CTD whenever I enter any of the doors in the spiral staircase room. I toggled clipping off and went all the way down, to see if I could continue without entering all of those other rooms, and encountered a CTD when trying to enter Avalon. I took off Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and the problem persisted, so I can only assume that OOO 1.33 is not the issue.

i usually try to deactivate esps, check back ingame for the crash and continue this process until the crash vanishes at some point.
see some posts above, Supreme Magicka once was a "culprit" as far as i remember...
