[Ideapossible WIP?] dh_furn expansion discussion

So, dh_furn, or Dave Humprey's Furniture Store, has been one of my favourite mods for years. Perfect for players who enjoy decorating their own player homes. Unfortunately, it is old, and has not been updated since it's 2.01 update, which fixed some errors.

The mod and it's structure hold much potential which I would like to see expanded on. That being said, I want to plan out some ideas for an expansion, which I may or may not make after.

So, here are some of my ideas:

  • Improvements to the base scripts
Simple things, the scripts are already very convenient and useful, but lack a few features which in my opinion can make placing certain objects rather difficult, a great deal of the lights do not have the movement scripts attached, and there is no way to rotate the furniture other than by picking it up and placing it again.
  • Adding new items
The base mod used a few display cases from modders resources, it also had bar doors which opened. Using the same scripts, one could have more placeable doors for their homes, and if new resources were animated, one could even make sliding doors for the paper dividers that are included.
  • Adding things from mods
Tamriel Rebuilt is what I have in mind. TR adds a lot of new furniture, new rugs were something I noticed in their releases that I'd love to see as purchasable furniture items, I'm sure there are a number of other new items as well that could be added.
  • Improved compatibility with other mods
For the most part, dh_furn, at least for me, has little compatibility issues with other mods. However, I'd like to see compatibility with lights 300. Lights 300 changes the lighting settings on most of the ingame lights, and the dh_furn versions of those lights don't use settings, I cannot confirm, but I believe TLM may need some aesthetic changes as well.
  • Larger objects
While for the realists, larger objects may seem like a stretch, I believe having placeable wooden platforms and things would be useful for if the player wanted to occupy a cave, build a stairway to their house on a mountain, or other such things. I'm talking about the wooden bridges and platforms that are found inside smugglers caves and such, I'd love to be able to place them myself.
  • Stealable furniture
For players that would prefer an alternative to buying their furniture, or would want to be able to clear the furniture out of a previously furnished home without use of the console, an optional plugin could be made to replace furniture inside people's homes with item versions that the player could steal. A new script solution would be required to do this, as well as quite a bit of work, since all furniture inside people's homes would need to be replaced with the new versions and added proper ownership, but I have some ideas on how to do it and am confident it is possible and could be done.

Do others have ideas? Questions? Comments? I want to have a good discussion here about this before starting anything. :)

I certainly would love this mod to be updated to include recently made resources . Especially TR ones ( love my Mainland ) . Wooden bridges , platforms and walkways , awnings , small market stalls , carts , fences , wells ( maybe not wells - little too immersion breaking ) . Would love some compatibility with NOM .

EDIT : Also some way of getting Dwemer items in use like lights and pipes and those weird round raised pit things . A method of integrating modder made rugs , wall hangings and paintings .

NOM compatibility is a good idea. I've never played with NOM so I'm not sure what that would include. I know there are a number of changes that could be made to make dh_furn more compatible with Morrowind Crafting though.

More dwemer stuff would be nice too, I'm not sure what you mean by "round raised pit things" I'll have to take a look at the dwemer stuff to see what you mean, but being able to place the dwemer lights and stuff would be cool. I feel like it might be a little immersion breaking though, since they seem to be powered by some sort of steam based incandescence, and in most homes such a system wouldn't be around. It'd be funny to be able to place all those dwemer machines in your player home though, haha.
