Future Fallout Creatures

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:27 am

Alright, so I always thought that there are very few creatures in the Fallout world and thought that having a variety would be interesting. Of course some would die out, but surely more than a handful have lived, so what are your ideas.

Also I already got the Ok on this so no need to tell me to move it.

One of my ideas is the giant octopus species that lives mainly in the pacific ocean. If a game was maybe in Seattle I could see this being in it. It would become semi-terrestrial and would come onto the land occasionally. It would be maybe the size of a shed.

My explination for why we haven't seen them in the desert wasteland of California, Nevada and D.C. is because after the Great War, horses that didn't get eaten (since they are flight animals, like the most afraid domestic animals we have) they migrated north. Everything was turning desert anyway, better just go north to colder climate where there might be some green. So they went to Canada :)
And now, 200+ years later, they migrate down again, so they cross the old-world border and are now north of Chicago and Toronto somewhere. That's where I'd like Fallout 4 to take place, not necissarily between Chicago and Toronto, but at least between Chicago and some east of http://savagebeatings.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4b6z3d? ^^

And to say they are extinct, well, they are regional creatures now then, if you take my theory there in consideration. No one has a problem with Bighorners and Cazadors, yet their first appearance and mention were in Fallout New Vegas!

Being in Chicago could work well I think, since it is pretty close to the flatlands region, so I would expect horses go there first, say Nebraska and that area, and then spread.

Gobble gobble gobble :)

Hey, Wonder Wombat, I just drew a quick one of a giant octupus attacking a steamboat outside the coast of Seattle (you see the space needle on the horizon), I'll post it here later when I've scanned it.
It does not walk on land though, I don't see how it could mutate into something that does that x)

Awesome I can't wait to see it.

Also I never said walk, just semi-terrestrial. Octopi (I think). I was thinking like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua8Z93F1a9E. My zoology teacher told us once that this one octopus squeezed out of its aquarium slid across a floor and went into another tank to eat the crabs in it. I'd imagine that it would slowly crawl or walk or whatever, but when it sees you, it could move faster and would swing its tentacles violently at you.

Edit: They can even change color out of water, that could be an interesting creature: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R5dU86MQqM&feature=related

Merghouls - With my fallout Chicago Wasteland design, I though of having a vault in the middle of Lake Michigan as an experimental vault to test how the humans will change living under the irradiated waters. When you get to the vault, you find that the residents have turned into something similar to Mirelurk Kings, almost like Merghouls.

Dragons - Once small lizards, they are now the size of komodo dragons. The variant, Flametongue, can spit fire. I think there might be something like this though.

Yeah, but as you see, it's a very squishy creature and I bet it needs moisture and a flat enough surface to do that slow glide-thing. The wasteland is a rather dry place, and the octopus couldn't travel any long distances at all without drying out or if something attacked it and ate it when going at that speed :P Even if it's a giant one of 50 feet long, sure no one would dare attack something that big and strange, but it's probably so heavy it can't move at all on land :(

Video's cool though

That's what SCIENCE could do, it already has the capability, and the mutation can make have a rougher skin which still is durable so it can move effectively on land. Giving it a shell would defeat the purpose of the Octopus, so that's out.

What if they just live in like... houses near the water that has partially sunk down in it, and boathouses and such places that would be moist. I am think something along when you are trying to find that plastic surgery guy below Rivet City, the place with all the lurks. But then it couldn't be a 50 feet squid, and watching a big one like that slither across the streets of former Seattle is laughable in my head, I dunno how you imagine it. The idea I got, with them living in flooded buildings, is that they can crawl on walls. Maybe even drop onto your head if you pass under one (and then you either become a zombie or will have an alien burst through your ribcage, heh heh)

I think you are misinterpreting my idea. I think semi-terrestrial would be best. For instance you are near the beach or a harbor and 100 feet away you see this giant octopus crawl out of the water and kill and eat a dog. After doing so it sticks around for a while sliding around maybe even crawling on rocks, then after its done it crawls back into the water.

I am imagining them not going to far into the city, but there is a lot of water in seattle, so they could be around most of it and a lot of that water is right next to the city.

Also when I said the size of a shed, I meant something http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&biw=1280&bih=856&tbm=isch&tbnid=fU2RVbZ9lVLONM:&imgrefurl=http://www.cedarshed.com/01-sheds-small-shed-kit.html&docid=8yErj3GFeQfRLM&imgurl=http://www.cedarshed.com/images2009/sheds/gardener350.jpg&w=350&h=318&ei=jYvVTr2NBNDIsQK6wqQi&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=530&vpy=430&dur=4110&hovh=214&hovw=236&tx=161&ty=112&sig=116364781425615657411&page=3&tbnh=148&tbnw=155&start=41&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:41. That would be tentacles and all, not just the head. And what would be interesting is if they would climb, maybe they could you could be near http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&biw=1280&bih=856&tbm=isch&tbnid=RTwuBGPOD_QGAM:&imgrefurl=http://www.123rf.com/photo_666596_ship-in-seattle-harbor.html&docid=MGUcd5xnfYrM_M&imgurl=http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/cyberbeastie/cyberbeastie0612/cyberbeastie061200012/666596-ship-in-seattle-harbor.jpg&w=1200&h=801&ei=KYzVTr3EM679sQK_zqWqDw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=219&sig=116364781425615657411&page=1&tbnh=151&tbnw=227&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:15,s:0&tx=141&ty=34 doo-dads and one could drop from the support.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U87zVkIXNI0 A shark crossed your octopus'(?) path, wonderwombat, when the bombs fell, and uhh... This [censored] appeared?

In all seriousness, if the wasn't horrifying enough :sadvaultboy: , I was thinking of some mutant hyena that somehow got to the US.

Edit: Maybe that wouldn't make much sense. Perhaps a mutated http://rlv.zcache.com/giant_mutant_bird_mousepad-p144161956266257791trak_400.jpg

Edit2: I'm going to go with some sort of mutated vulture. Basically, it is now nocturnal and 10x the size, it preys on people. Feel that Fallout never had you shooting at the sky. Perhaps they look like the bird things from Metro 2033 in a way.

Vultures are big birds, 10x the size would make it extra huge, maybe 3xand or 5x, but I like the idea.

Thanks for reminding me of the horror that is Cliffracers from Morrowind :P

If there's a swamp in-game there will be some kind of bipedal mutant crocodile or alligator. We'll call them Death Jaws ;)

EDIT: Forgot about this but there was such a concept for the canceled Fallout Tactics 2...http://images.wikia.com/fallout/images/5/54/Croc2.jpg

What about trapdoor spiders, giant trapdoor spiders. However what makes them unique is that during game play they don't repeatedly attack you, but rather they pop out once take a quick bite which would cripple whatever leg was hit as well as give a large dosage of semi-powerful poison. Then they scurry back into their traps and wait for the next victim. What makes them especially formidable despite their low health is that they move quickly, and their traps are very hard to see coming. So if you go back looking for them they can easily get you again and again and again before you even notice.

Sandmen.

Spoiler
Sandmen are sort like Desert Ghouls, they are like thin The Thing's, very cracked and tough skin, an inherent DT bonus and Agility disadvantage.
Their mutation came from the ghoulification, causing them to rapidly regenerate their lost tissue, but due to the constant exposure to the desert their skin stopped falling off and at some point started to layer over their scabs, causing a very cracked skin that is continuously layering itself with new tissue. Every couple of years they forcefully shed their scab-skin and start a new because it becomes too hard for them to move.

How about that? Sandmen is of course just a working title which I myself hate, sounds too Star Wars'y.

----

The Sandmen is just an appearnce I've had in mind for years, never really expanded on it, so their culture is not something I have thought of.
But I thought of another thing to add to their mutation, in Broken Steel ghouls apparently have no body heat, yes it's ridiculous but let's roll with it.
Sandmen hate that cold, so they thrive in the warmth of the sun and especially the deserts which is what caused them to spend so much time in the sun to alter their mutation in the first place.

Not a "creature" like a molerat or anything but still.

As for creatures.

Night Creeper

Picture a wolverine.
Now remove it's fur.
Now make it "super model" skinny.
Now sharpen it's claws even more.
Now imagine it being incredibly hyperactive.
Now imagine it hunting in packs of 6.

Yeah.

Oh and a giant centipede, big as a Giant Ant Soldier, about the same health as a Deathclaw, if it successfully poisons you then you are paralyzed for 20 seconds.
The poisons stacks.

Strange....

The chances of most mammals I think would be rather low but in some places it would be great to see mutated http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komodo_dragon, it would be cool if the radiation turned them into miniture Godzillas with high resistence to all most everything. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_lion / Black Panther. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amia_calva or some other fish that can come to land would be cool if it mutated so that it could live in land or in water with out problem.

I hate Floaters. Creepy things. And they were tough to kill when three or so jumped me.
