Future of FO:S

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 11:40 pm

I feel bad for Bethesda a bit on this one, mainly because the release of Fallout Shelter strikes me as something that Bethesda did as a passion project, and now with a growing list of bugs it seems like they might be regretting letting this out into the wild. I think the biggest mistake they made in making FO:S was placing micro-transactions into the game, especially now that we now how pervasive and game wrecking some of the bugs can be. I see one of two possible outcomes. Either they will put out a few nominal patches and remove micro transactions (hopefully refunding some people or giving out free lunchboxes to those who spent money on dead end games). This option seems less likely. I would imagine that we will see more robust post-launch support, with micro additions to the game over time and the continued use of micro transactions to support the game.

I just get the sensation that Bethesda didn't want to commit any great amount of time or resources to this game, but now that it has become such a huge success, they can't really afford to just let these issues slide. I'm surprised at the prevalence of some of the bugs, because they seem like such obvious things to have happen (the pregnancy glitch especially. I'm surprised the devs didn't experiment with deleting and repositioning buildings prior to launch).

The majority of complaints that I've seen so far are from people trying to run it on unsupported devices.

Sorry mistergreen, that is just untrue.

The game badly handles memory and events which causes crashes. These are exponentially worse on non "optimized devices" but they still exist on optimized ones too.

Currently I cannot open the dweller list on my iphone 6+ out of fear it will crash the game, currently running a 95% chance that it will. The worst culprit is when you are doing something like dragging someone to another room and another event pops up crashing the game.

This game feels rushed and poorly QAed. Even on target devices there are huge crashing bugs that are easily reproducable.

well when i had my iphone 6+ with IOS 8.2, i experienced no crashing, game breaking bugs or glitches. when i upgrades to IOS 8.3 it crashes when i start it up the first time but the second time it works. rad roaches are over powered. vault is maxed but needs more upgrades. also the game needs more caps for payout when doing missions, rushing, exploring the vast wasteland. either than that, game is awesome for "freemium".

What is untrue? You might want to read my post again and pay particular attention to the words "that I've seen".

I would say there are some who are using unsupported devices, but many are on supported devices as well.

Apparently you are not aware of the definition of untrue, here it is for reference: not in accordance with fact or reality; false or incorrect.

Take note here, its untrue in reality but is true for your experience, hence when talking about the problem in a larger respect is is untrue.

I also dislike that you discredit his post by saying "its the devices," then quickly back off your point when it is questioned. What exactly were you adding to this topic then?

iphone 5s is supposedly a supported device. This app needs to be taken down from the app store for they are currently running a scam. They could get sued for this, eventually.

This game has suffered software quality issues since I installed it. Too bad at its core it is a great game design. Very addictive and a bit different than anything I have come across. Originally the game would just randomly exit, but now it quits after selecting my vault. Rebooting, turning off wifi, nothing seems to help. I am at about 25 dwellers.

I am running this on a iPad-mini, latest version of iOS. Lots of memory left. I can play other popular games without ever experiencing a crash or lockup. (Hmm buried in the requirements is a non iPad-mini2 not supported? If so I would think it should not allow download or warn you)

I teach at a local college. One of the subjects I teach is software quality. I am sad to say this game looks like it was not adequately tested before general public release. I did not pay anything yet so not as worked up about it as some here but bad qa = revenue consequences.

Too bad, looks like a lot of great potential. Hope you can recover and salvage the revenue potential of this game. :)

also on the subject of microtransactions...there's a way to get unlimited lunchboxes..for free..no jailbreaking..no hacking...

just google it.

the game is broken, NOBODY should spend money on microtransactions, you may as well be throwing your money in the garbage, considering you are paying for stuff you can get for free. and also considering most lunchboxes just have like 50 resources a stimpack and 600 caps

now, i support the idea of supporting the company financially. i will buy fallout 4 when it comes out, but this game is a broken money pit.

do not spend...

This wasn't a passion project in any regard. It has neat mechanics, but I won't be playing any longer if updates to gameplay and bugs don't happen.

It seems like there are stability issues with platform that Bethesda hasn't really taken into consideration. Like that fact that an app will crash after it has used up all the ram instead of using the hard disk for virtual memory like Windows does.

It's sounds to me like the game was too ambitious for mobile.

Just a shame...

...seeing people on Reddit complaining that Apple didn't stop them from playing a free-2-play game.

And that would be really sad. People jeopardizing the release of Fallout 4 going after Bethesda over a free game. I don't understand how anyone could think it's a good idea to spend money on a game that's crashing constantly or buggy. If it's buggy then why spend money on a free game?

I'm on an iPad Air, which is a supported device. Had a vault with about 20 dwellers and the game eventually crashed and refuses to ever start up again. Clicking on the icon only brings the screen for a few seconds then it returns to the home iPad home screen. My device is as pristine as it can get as I rarely use it for anything other than email and some light browsing. Game is seriously bugged. Still weeks without actual statement from devs or any updates is very depressing.i feel sorry for those who spent money on it
