We actually knew it would fall (yes- MK canon) from thehttp://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/5th_era_loveletter.shtml

And what I gathered from the book most of Morrowind was destroyed. It said their major cities were destroyed, that would include not only Ebonheart, Vivec, Balmora, etc. but Mournhold, Narsis and Blacklight.

And yeah I was sad to hear it, but I was expecting it, and sort of a comfort to know the pain is over. I'm sure Solsthiem is a hoot to hang around now!

What will be interesting to see is what it means to be Dunmer now. The tombs of their ancestors are gone, and their ancient cities. The Temple has been gutted, not even counting the loss of the physical temples. Their worship of the "Good" Daedra will probably remain, and some will convert to worship of the Nine. But how much can the Dunmer change without losing their souls, as it were?

It reminds me of Dragon Age's "flat-ears", elves who move away from their ghettos and try to fit in with human society but are accepted by neither side.

What I don't understand is that Vicec's sermons stated it wouldn't come crashing down. I asked the question several months ago: When the Ghostgate falls and the Tribunal's power recede with the destruction of Lorkhan's heart, wouldnt the MoT come falling down?
Answer: It wouldn't because of the love of the Dunmer for Vivec

Here's one answer:
No. http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/lessons.shtml#33 http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/5th_era_loveletter.shtml

Vivec says:
'I would have done so myself if I wanted, silly Hortator. I shall keep it there with its last intention intact, so that if the love of the people of this city for me ever disappear, so shall the power that holds back their destruction.'

So, does the "Loveletter" that is now considered lore, shove aside the known lore (Lord Vicec' sermons?)
I am aware Beth's lorebuff who has mainly written MW's lore also wrote the "Love letter" but to me it seems contradictive. Unless ofcourse, the Dunmer stopped loving Vicec all of a sudden. (hmm, did I hit a nail here?)
Even though I appreciate's Beths daring, I can't say I'm happy about Vvardenfell being blown up so maybe I am looking at things that aren't relevant at all but I'm confused.

they stopped loving him, the Nerevarine saw to that. the Tribunal has been destroyed or debunked, the temple failed, the Daedra invaded and people lost faith. When they lost faith in Vivec's power, the moon crashed down.

I also don't think Vivec wanted the moon to crash -- it probably wasn't a punishment. Maybe it was like a natural law, as automatic as gravity. A god's followers stop believing in him, and the god can no longer keep the rock frozen in time.

There's also that whole symbolic thing of Vuhon rejecting love in favor of envy and hatred and greed. "Love" is the important part here, not the god-leech.

The fans falling in love with Morrowind on a large scale came after the thought to destroy it.

If only their love was strong enough to keep the Ministry of Truth from falling.

Moondrop may solve many problems, but it's also trite and so far does not really satisfy - certainly it comes nowhere near what it removes/replaces and so lacks balance. If you are going to have something so major then it should have a whole lot more background.

Massive the 'moon' may be but it was not that far above the ground. I should know I flew up there often enough.

I'm just left with the feeling that something has gone out of phase - so if there is nothing further in the second instalment then it will not do it for me.

Finally it has that feel of something more out of game than in-game. Like someone who does not play is making game decisions and playing politics with fan opinion.

Sorry for those who feel otherwise - the hope has to be that there will be more to it - and who knows right now, but there very well may be.

It had all of its original momentum from being in space, not just the height we saw above Vivec City.

Fair enough - then it's fall was not accidental in-game so to speak as there is no planet-wide nuclear winter/death of the dinosaurs. Again I feel there is something missing - roll on book2 and even more TESV

I noted someone earlier in the thread was keen to see Argonians conquer the whole of Morrowind - but Argonians are swamp-adapted, rather than fire-oriented. I am not sure what Argonians would want in a seething mass of lava and such if the fire-blessed dunmer were forced out.

Come to think of it I always felt that the 'King' in Mournhold was a bit of a lizard ;)

heh - Happy New Year too :celebrate:

edit: I sorta feel that the first poem in According to Nature visits this - have to think whether it should be adapted to allow for book-content or be allowed to stand as is on its own merits. There may be a lot of rethinking needed now. A modder's lot is not an easy one!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOO! Theres a contradiction here! If the moon crashed into morrowind because the faith in vivec and tribunal fell, then Azura planned on distroying Morrowind. And don't say she did not know because from all kinds of sorces the supposed to be "all knowing".... I'm having trouble trying to understand Azura's logic right know. Did she plan on the floating island distroying Nirn? And why would Beothia let his people be distroyed? Am I the only one who sees this? There a HUGE contradiction with the lore now. And why would we want our favroute land Morrowind look like something like Mehrunes Dagons Deadlands? I think we had enougth of that... :nuke:

@MoraCrab-Azura could do nothing anyway, as Vivec pretty much banished her during his Trial.

It's not like it is the first time Red mountain exploded or some cities were leveled. Give them enough time and they will rebuild. Or build a entirely new society without the old houses, ALMSIVI, ordinators, tombs, grumpy priests, Sixth Houses...

If I were an Argonian Radical I would like to see the Dunmer extinct and there would be no Empire to stop me. The fact is that they were nice enough to not go there as they could.

The thing is, they have undergone most of these things individually, like invasions and eruptions, but an eruption, meteor impact and invasion all at once is too much.

Not to mention this was all at once in a year, hence "The Red Year." Likely the argonians invaded right after the year was over, so while the dunmer were JUST trying to rebuild and salvage what they lost, now you have lizardmen with 1000s of years of slavery put on them, and they're are extremely angry with hive mind trees, whose roots stretch far to tell the argonians what to do. Heck, the argonians really crushed MD's forces badly. These aren't just your average peasant farmer revolt, these are a people who are born guerrilla fighters with a a fury and control from trees that hasn't been unleashed in ages. Heck, the famed Tiber Septim did not want to fight the argonians, but was ready to fight Morrowind.

The dunmer had it really bad. If the nords are indeed very generous with the dunmer on Solstheim, it'll begin a new and unexpected alliance between two groups that had been fighting each other since day 1. Also, there is a good chance that old tradition will change, and the style and thought of the dunmer will change with the events of the Red Year.

R.I.P. Morrowind

You were the best province of the empire,
you were home to the most superior race,
you were great...

May Morrowind rest in peace, may the Dunmer still worship ancestors, daedra, and the temple. May the Nine die a slow, horrible, death to the daedra.

The Nine are nothing, the Daedra are everything. ~Zalphon

Surely the moon would only destroy the city of vivec, considering that it was absolutely tiny.

e=mc^2. Mass is not the only factor. If it was I'd agree, but then hitting the underneath the big-ass volcano...

The moon was only frozen in time; it still held its original velocity. Plus, what if the pieces they took out of the moon also still maintained their velocity? That's a lot of explosions there.

Oh i see i was under the impression that it had literally been stopped and therefore held no velocity. Its not stated where the peices were stored but it would be interesting to know, especially if they ended up in some museum or personal collection in Highrock for example.

Hilarity ensue when a breton noble is walking a wench back to his castle, and suddenly half of it blows up. He runs inside to ask what happened, and his servants tell him that the rock from the moon he had in his collection went through and destroyed everything on that wing of his castle.

Thats it, it simply has to happen in TES5.

Perhaps the rocks mined were used to build the canton in Vivec city, or Tribunal temles all over.
