Galsiah's Character Development (GCD) Bug Report

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:18 am

Did you try reloading your game?

Yes, I did, and everything was perfectly fine. Though I hadn't tried to re-enact the situation which possibly triggered this nullification of cast chances, as my previous save was way back in the game.

Did you try going to a shrine or altar to restore your attributes?

Having Julan Ashlander Companion mod, I'd tried to restore attributes with his spell, which, as you correctly guessed, didn't work.

How's your Magicka level?

I didn't changed a bit. You see, all of my character's stats remained unchanged, yet cast chances became zero.

I did get over it, though. By uninstalling the game. I was too far in the game and too involved with my character to just abandon him and start a new one. For the time being I'll play some other games, and I'm sure that I eventually will return to Morrowind.

Thank you for replying, huskobar, and good luck with improving GCD!

Any news on the GCD improvements?

Edit: Tried the new test play version a few posts above me. I started the game and everything was fine. I saved, left the game, and started again later. Just as the game finishes loading I get the sound of a MW error message, but nothing appears. Alt+Tabbing out and in allows me to start playing (but I didn't see an error message).

It happens every time. This is what the warning.txt says:

Expression Error: DIVIDEBYZERO in Gals__Attribute_ROI.
Set expression returned an error.

How do you post a load order again? It has been a while. I'm not using any GCD plugins or compatibility patches, just GCDWhitteUB.esp. I started a new game.

First of all, thank you povuholo for testing!
Yeah, I've only gotten that error once myself, but it's a lousy one. IIRC, I THINK I've encountered it in the original GCD. At any rate, I won't panic about this test version yet - unless I get many reports of such errors.
What also worked for me was to uncheck GCD from the load list, load and save the savegame without it, then tick it again and reload. If anyone tries this, be careful. Don't overwrite your previous saves. And of course don't make any other changes to your other mods. When you start it with GCD re-ticked, it will readjust your stats. I didn't notice any big changes to mine, but you might want to pay attention to them just in case.
I don't know what brings this error on. I will keep monitoring it. For now, I'm just awaiting reports from anyone else testing this.

AFA load order, I also have completely drawn a blank; I hope I'm not going senile! - maybe MLox?

Hmm yes that'll do. I'm sure people used to do it differently though. :P

Anyway I don't think the load order will be very helpful but we'll see.

..just found this, too.

You can do this in two manners.

1: You open your morrowind.ini in your Morrowind folder, and then copy and paste the mod list at the bottom of your morrowind.ini.

2: If you have Wrye Mash installed then go to the saves tab, click on a savegame(The last one made is best.) then on the right click with your right mouse button on the File header. In the context menu click on Copy list and then paste it in a post here.

Hope this helps. :)

Do I take it you have dumped GCD Lean in favor of Gluby's v1.08?
Load order shouldn't make a huge difference as GCD's scripts are pretty independent, though if you have something else that modifies stats there could be conflicts.

I've switched to Gluby's/Azumite's fixed 1.08 version now. I'm not using all of BTBs tweaks though. I heard there was some sort of issue with GCD and the BTB - Character esp, so I'm not using that Character esp right now.

I'm using Gluby's as well & thinking about either using BTBs Charactor esp instead of the GCD one or go over to bgBalancing. I loved his balancing mod for Oblivion & as BTB says anyone who uses more than one balancing mods is a dill anyway. It's probably also possible to add the GCD tweaks to one of the others as well to make them play better with GCD. What tool is the best for editing the innards of an uninstalled plugin? I'm really new at this & so far my attempts at comparing tnem have been less than sucessful. I would love a way to edit 2 plugins side by side like I can with text files in winMerge. My attempts at opening uninstalled plugins in the construction set have been less than sucessfull but maybe I'd better go back & read the Manual again :banghead: I do have a tendency to do that for quite a while before really getting down to it & reading the manual but perhaps its time Beebee

I'm still not sure whether there actually is a problem between my mod and GCD. On the outside, the two edit completely different things. But I really don't know enough about GCD to say whether or not there's potential for conflict with, say, the birthsign remover script.

I really wish I could figure this one out, though, because people keep asking me about it.

I'm cleaning out some files and would like to remove GCD Lean v2.02 from the Media Fire download site. If anyone is using this, is there any concern about doing so? I'm currently using v2.03 myself and, knock on wood, it seems to be treating me well so far.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dzzml2tykg1zz1y

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?gp3flhh7ylb8eld

Has anyone noticed any issues in v2.03 that weren't present in v2.02? Thanks.

edit: v2.02 link removed

Here ya go DWS, the link was somewhere on the third page of the thread:

Though I don't use QuickChar (I have been using SkipTutorial), I have not had any of the problems described with my version. It seems pretty stable. I have it up http://download210.mediafire.com/ztz0zhxavsgg/ylyn2fwmofz/GCD+v1.08+with+Startscript%2C+fixed+%5BGalsiah%5D.rar, if you'd like to try it. Again, basically all of AzuMite's fixes applied, except the vars occupying the 34th position are shifted to the end, rather than shifting all variables one position down, and all commenting retained.

So lets see if I understand correctly, I have to use the 1.08 patch for example, as a replacement for all the main esp's in the original GCD? So I can run only the GCD 1.08 esp and have all the features?

If you mean Gluby's "GCD v1.08 with Startscript, fixed [Galsiah]" yes. I don't think the original 1.08 is available anymore.

1.07c is just fine and complete.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1117777-relz-btbs-game-improvements-40/page__view__findpost__p__16483406

While there was a 1.08 patch, it wasn't at all important - the only changes it made were cosmetic. Specifically, it contained a hack to automatically restore the HUD when it disappears on level-up due to the initial hack to get the level change to show up on the character screen. However, given that the HUD-restoration hack involved the use of an invisible NPC and forcegreeting, there's more to go wrong. It's also out of my modding comfort-zone (i.e. scripting, scripting and scripting), so I'm less familiar with the sorts of things which might go wrong. I've had one or two reports of GCD supposedly making sneak-attacks impossible - as well as some dialogue weirdness. Maybe they were mistaken/unrelated-to-GCD, but it could be that something has gone a little wrong with the whole invisible-NPC hack.

While it was nice to finally find a way to fix the disappearing HUD issue, there's some evidence that the fix might sometimes cause trouble - there's certainly more to go wrong. Personally, I probably wouldn't use it. The temporarily-disappearing-HUD might be a little odd, but it's not going to cause any real problem. 1.08 is a cosmetic fix that may potentially cause real problems (even if it's pretty unlikely, and it shouldn't in theory). Unless disappearing HUDs annoy you immensely, you're probably better off without it.

It is. I used it for years myself with no problems. I switched to Gluby's last year and also had no problems. It seems that some users (not me) had crashes and weird behavior with 1.07 and the fixed version addresses those issues. I wouldn't hesitate to use 1.07.

The way I understand it, if using Galsiah's version, the only extra esps that have been incorporated are the 1.08 patch and "GCD Startscript for Trib or Bloodmoon.esp". The other main alternate esps like GCD better balanced birthsigns, restore potions fix, settings hard, etc have not been incorporated. Right? Of course the answer to your question would depend on your definition of "all the main esps" I guess.

Right, none of the basic .esp's include the optional files except that Gluby's version includes the Tr and BM startscript.

So, you can use Galsiah's original 1.07 plus the startscript or Gluby's 1.08 alone. In either case, the optional files have to be added separately. Note that the 1.07 optional files also work with Gluby's 1.08.

Hello people. I've been using GCD for a while now, but I wanna try vanilla leveling again. Is it possible to remove this mod without starting a new game, and for my character to still be able to level up normally after removing?

Yes, but you'll have the GCD modified attributes. When you first load the save without GCD, you'll get a message that's meant for players converting a standard game to GCD. Just ignore it and you can continue with vanilla from then on. You could also switch to Madd leveler which is kinda half way to vanilla.

Well, when you start GCD, it modifies the normal attributes you would have in a vanilla game. Removing GCD won't change your stats, sorry for being unclear.

Hmm, so is there no way to get the kind of stats that I could have had or something? A way to balance my stats out for vanilla leveling maybe?
