Gambling!

Will TESV have gambling? (answer if you know)

If you believe they should add gambling what games would you like to see?
Please try and be creative, and not crude.

Something to make the world feel more alive. Yes please. NPCs should do it without me having to play as well. This is something RDR did fantastically.

This is because I have no idea about gambling in the Middle Ages (as this game series seems to be based on), but...how would that work, exactly??

Technically yes...but I never could lose. Plus there was no skill to it, and it wasn't really interesting. If there were more mages then I might have considered it worth watching especially with better variety and better graphics of magic.

I think we should be able to gamble. It adds to our choices.

I believe I recall reading a book or hearing a line in Morrowind about various game splayed there to gamble on. I would love to see some original games put in. I never played Caravan but I did play Liars Dice a lot in RDR and I actually ended up buying a bunch of dice so me and my friends could play. Lots of fun. Glad the game exposed me to it. I do think that the games should range from simple to difficult. I think I remember Caravan seeming quite complex and I would like some games varying in complexity.

not a fan of it in real life. If it was implemented in the game, I would just ignore that feature. Gambling does not interest me, even if there are no real consequences (such as with a computer game, or with "fake" money).

I'm sure there are many other interactive games that could be used that don't involve betting to get someone else's money. Medievil: Resurrection has a nice slew of carnival minigames with cash rewards for successfully completing a challenge.

I never gambled in any game that featured it. It just doesn't make sense to me to bet money on randomness. Maybe it's because I like cryptography, I don't know.
If I could bet money on my own ability to accomplish something though, I'd definitely like it a lot more.

"Will TESV have gambling? (answer if you know)"

Of course. Buying a new game in a series that's had many of the fundamental strengths of the series removed or "streamlined" is a huge gamble. We won't know if we win, Bethesda wins, nobody wins, or both win, at least until November. [Gives the wheel a spin.....and waits......and waits....and waits until November.]

I'd like to keep the ability to place bets on arena fights. I hope the arena is improved and extended to all large towns where big tournaments take place (say weekly), and you can also enter fights and place a bet on yourself (ala Mount and Blade). The ability to travel from town to town making a living out of the arena winnings would be great, especially if you're allowed to take companions to fight with you on your team.

I'd also like horse racing (and the horse controls improved and made realistic), and the ability to bet on horses and race yourself.

To reflect the times and add some brutality I'd like some blood sports such as [censored] fighting [edit - err, bird fighting?] (horiffic I know, but it's a game). Or perhaps something involving one of Skyrim's unique creatures.

I'd also like tavern games unique to the world (as opposed to cards or dice, although that'd be okay too). Something similar to real life but a little different. Actually the Fable 2 gambling games were nicely done, even if I didn't understand what the hell was going on.

I don't think we have to be fans of real-life gambling to want it in the game. It seems like something Nords would be into and something which would add some interaction to the Skyrim culture (you may be playing a roguish character who loves to gamble and do other roguish stuff, while you yourself like wholesome family fun and early nights).

Yeah, but not high stakes. When you're wealthy and high level it should be just for fun basically. People in tavern throwing dice in the corner, playing drinking games at the bar, arm wrestling and playing cards on the tables.

which reminds me, there should be an autosave for gambling, so we're not tempted to exploit the system

This is a tough question and it depends on two things:

1. Did they have Holdem back then?

2. Did they have Texas back then?

If so, then yes.

Gambling has always been a part of The Elder Scrolls. In Morrowind one of the first quests involved a lost bet in a card game with Hrisskar in Arille's Trade House (boggle your mind, you know that you remember). So why not have actual gambling games available in Taverns and the like?
