So "gambling" was added

Post » Sun May 23, 2010 11:45 pm

Does anybody actually... gamble?

I don't have the patience to learn Caravan or Blackjack. Roulette is... unexciting. So the only gambling I ever do in this game is the slot machines. I just spend all my NCR bills/Legion coins on The Tops chips and raise it to maximum bet. Then I usually lose it all after trying to get the triple Cherries 20x over.

Does anybody gamble? It would svck that a Vegas-based game would let it go to waste.

I am the Courier who broke the bank, fun fact: Gambling was present in FO1&2, it even had its own skill.

you don't know how to play blackjack? XD

I haven't tried Caravan, and only a little blackjack I usually have plenty of cash by the time I get to the casino's. I tried slots like 3 times. IE I used up the free 50 chips you get from cachinco. :)

Im decent at Blackjack, but its all about luck. Roulette, I only played it a few times, won 20 chips and went to the slots. And Caravan? Screw that game, I get my 3 caravans set up between 21-26, other guy gets 2 of theirs to that region, gets a 32, and it says I lose. Screw that game.

I know right? I should win, i set up my caravans and overburden the NPC, they are totally losing, all red except one, which was 4, I was 23, 24,23. and I lost.

It's only gambling if you might lose everything right?

Not if you have 7 luck. You will -eventually- max out.

Pretty lame.

Once you figure out how broken caravan is you will win every single friggen time.

I play the slot machines, the other games are pretty boring. Caravan, once you learn how to set up your deck you win every time. The only thing I like with caravan now is collecting my own deck.

I just like to play Black Jack, when I can't think of anything else to do.

It's called "gambling", not "winning". If people didn't fail at slot machines 99% of the time, the things wouldn't be around because they wouldn't be profitable. Gambling is a business where the owners get rich, not a charity where the players get rich.

Unless you have a really high Luck stat, in which case statisticians hate you.

Blackjack is just getting 21 out of cards.

I've never bothered to visit a casino to gamble. I think my luck is only 6 so it wouldn't be very profitable.

I didn't (well, except the part that you need to get 21) and still broke the bank playing it. Then i opened the instruction booklet, that explained why the picture cards and aces behaved differently from what i expected :hehe:

The Blackjack tables are automated anyway, so all you really need to know is "try to get a hand as close to 21 as possible". Caravan, on the other hand... I fell asleep reading the rules for that.

It's based too much on your Luck attribute to be considered "gambling"...a few properly allocated S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points and half a brain, you'll break the banks in no time.

You can lose at caravan? Woah.

Can't blame the game for it's gambling holding your interests. That said, I mainly play Blackjack, since I'm an ace at it. I play roulette once in a blue moon, but roulette has to low a payout for my tastes (The only numbers worth playing are virtually impossible to land on, based on my anolysis of the ball and wheel spin. I mean, it's possible, but you have a better chance of convincing rex not to pee on fire hydrants than winning it. Slots are robbery, so I steer clear.

Blackjack for me, it's a game I play irl so it's easy to play in the game, especially since the house actually has a disadvantage...throw in a good luck skill and it's easy as.

Caravan I need to play more, I played once without knowing the rules and didn't do well, read the rules but it just seems a really boring card game : /.

Slots I've won at with high luck but not as consistently as with Blackjack, roulette has too low a payout. I never play either in real life, I don't intend to gamble, I intend to win money, so I stick to Poker and Blackjack.

I gambled so that I could get the achievements. That was really it though. Slots and Roulette svck. Blackjack is the only way to go.

Luck 6 + implant + Lucky Shades + 4 hours = rich.

Gotta be honest here. I'm level 25 on my first playthrough and I've only gambled 15 times. I've only won about 150 chips which I then turned into caps and left. So, I guess you could say; "No, I don't gamble." But on-the-other hand, when I went to Vegas a few years ago I didn't gamble either. I spent more time wandering around looking at all the kickass buildings or going to shows or sitting by the pool getting drunk. So, art imitates life I guess....

You don't really need to learn Black Jack to play it in NV, you only need decent luck stat.
As soon as you get to 7 or above the odds start to be in your favor.
Regarding Roulette I'm not sure, but Black Jack is a license for printing money once you get high luck.

As for caravan, I never understood the rules as presented in game, but you can find better manuals online.
However it seems that they probably screwed it up a bit after the last patch?

High luck, slots are where it's at. Kicked out of the Atomic Wrangler with 32,000 caps in winnings.

Don't bother with less than 8 luck, though.

That means Luck is working the way it is supposed to. At 5 or less, you will lose way more often than you win.

I really like Caravan yet everyone I know cannot play it, to be fair I couldn't set-up a game or really explain it but when I play a game I know what to do.

Roulette is the most convenient way to me. Just always bet on the same number.
If your LCK is 8 or above, it won't take you more than 10 attempts to get your number.
And then you get 35x of what your bet was. Blackjack for sure is more tedious.

I have only twice won in a slot machine, out of ~40 attempts.

I've had fun playing Blackjack though.
