Game-breaking glitch HELP!

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:40 am

I've recently made a Paladin, the perfect character to play the DG questline with. I was happily running along in the questline, and I had just finished "Bolstering the Ranks" (the quest where you get Florentius). Anyway, I walked a bit away from Ruunvald, saved my game and went to travel to Fort Dawnguard. As I walked in, Agmaer attacked me on sight, soon followed by all of the Dawnguard. Confused, I checked my bounty and I checked if I had the vampire disease; I had neither. I reloaded to when I was just outside Ruunvald and talked to Celann, my follower. Well, he suddenly stopped being my follower and attacked me too. I reloaded and walked around for a bit. Celann wouldn't attack me until I interacted with him, but he WOULD join in when the Dawnguard attacked me. Furthermore, I can't actually fast travel or do anything like Smithing, Alchemy, Enchanting etc because even when Celann isn't attacking me, the game counts me as 'in combat'. I only really have one theory. Literally moments before this happened, I made it to level 10. I had started the DG questline at about level 6, and I guess maybe now that I'm level 10 which is the supposed starting level, something messed up in the game and made this happen? I have no earlier saves to test out the level 10 theory, and I'm at a loss for what to do. This character had been going perfect, but now I can't even play the DG questline, fast-travel, or really do anything. Any help much appreciated!

I'm not sure what you've done, but I've experienced similar conditions if I accidentally struck a non-hostile during combat then saved, or struck a non-hostile just before leaving a cell. Ultimately I don't think there is much you can do, especially if all of your save games are after the incident. You might try finding a guard (even though you don't have a bounty) and see if they'll incarcerate you. Otherwise, it's time to start over and make more saves. Take comfort in the fact that you only made it to level 10. Shouldn't take long to catch back up.

I didn't think you could start the DG quests till you was level 10 so you are either glitched because you started at level 6 instead of level 10 or you accidently hit one of them at some point.

It's quite possible to start before level 10. Every guild has a level that's ideal to start, where the guards will speak of the guild and give you the side quest to find them.

But if you know what to do already, you're free to pursue it yourself regardless.

There is however a hidden bounty bug I hear, so that MAY be the problem.

However, the OP is considered constantly in combat, so there's clearly more to it than that.

If you are suffering from a hidden bounty, punch a guard in the face.
Pay off the minor bounty and that should get rid of the hidden one too.
Good luck

-Dont forget to go to the jail and reclaim (steal) your stolen stuff from the evidence chest, if you have any you want to keep, like keys.
