So..... Is my game broken?

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 10:15 am

As I came upon finishing the game on the side of the minutemen, I was taken through the institute where I meet Shaun, and The Father. Upon finishing the dialog with father, something messed up and the dialogue reset itself, keeping my previous answers shaded out. Seeing as the dialogue was not a short one, I did not want to repeat it and decided to shoot and kill father. The game wouldn't let me at first, as when I aimed at him i couldn't fire.. but I discovered a second later that sidesteps and firing I could hit him, and I killed the father in one shot.

Upon achieving this, I was instantly told to flee from the institute and was ambushed by Synths. I retreated and left.. When I proceeded to the castle to talk with Preston, the Synth army attacked and the battle wore on. After completing this I progressed to the quests for the minutemen finale quest line, got into the institute etc. Blowing up the institute was fairly quick, as my cousin and I were playing the same parts on our consoles on separate tv's side by side, he hadn't killed the father straight out like me and apparently it jumped me ahead a full 2 hours of content from where he was stuck going through missions still for the minutemen in the institute. I only had to blow up one small reactor, him: two and some large battles in between.

Anyways, I have been reading up on ballistic weave, obtainable by the railroad starting quests.. A lot of people are saying that finishing with the minutemen should still allow access to it (many guides say this as well) and I should be able to access these quest lines.. However when I go to the underground HQ, Everyone is disgusted with me, telling me to get lost etc. I researched this and was only able to find one post saying this would happen if you did not evacuate the institute before blowing it up. Although as I recall I did issue the evacuation.. My quests with the brotherhood have also come to a halt. I'm not really sure of what I did wrong.... Help? I'd rather not restart as I'm almost level 60 with over 40 powersuits..

Edit: This is for Xbox One

Have you joined the BOS and Railroad before you finished the game as Minutemen?

Keep in mind that main quest lines of the BOS and RR will be cancelled once you finished the game. All you get will be Randolph Safehouse from Des, Synth Rescue from Carrington, Weathervane from Tom, and Courser Clean-up from PAM.

While what you get from BOS are Learning Curve & Tech Docs from Quinlan, Junior Scribe Tutorial-thing from Kells, Collect Coolant from Ingram, Blood Samples from Neriah, and Feeding the Troops from Teagan.

It's possible that the RR disliking you for not issuing the escape. However, I'm not so sure because I did issue the escape.

See I'm positive I issued the escape, which is what is confusing me. Literally all of the RR npc's refuse to talk to me, not even a dialogue box. I joined the BOS before I finished the game, and I did some stuff with the RR but not sure if I officially joined them, however the guide's to getting ballistic weave unlocked said it doesn't require joining the railroad.

Joining RR takes you to follow the Freedom Trail and Des will bust you in the entrance. Deacon will vouch for you and do a mission with you. After that, you'll be officially joined the RR.

Unlocking Ballistic Weave requires you to do (maybe) a couple of Tom's Weathervane quests as well as PAM's Secure DIA cache. Minor spoiler: Ballistic Weave is a secret found by Tom from the DIA cache

Well I remember talking to Father about something and persuading him to do something that the railroad would like.

I also got to bring a puppet home with me.

So if you didn't converse much with more with Father, perhaps you took a shortcut and as you say, missed out on some things.

With any choice you can't have it all.

Basically you need to complete Boston After Dark, do 1 or 2 Jackpot missions with PAM, get told afterwards by Drummer Boy to speak with Tinker Tom, and Tinker Tom will unlock Ballistic weave for you. If you did the Minutemen ending but neither the Brotherhood or the Railroad are talking to you then it sounds like a glitch that might get fixed in a future patch but I don't think you can do anything about it right now.

You have to officially join the RR before Bunker Hill and recovering the Synths for The Institute. If you don't you will not be able to join them and will forever get the brushoff.

In order to get access to Ballistic Weave, you must join the RR, and do missions up to the point where Tinker Tom develops it and you get access to it.

However...

if you destroy the RR afterwards you will lose access to BW and all the clothing you put it on will lose it.

Not in my experience, once you the ability to make ballistic weave (through looting DIA pre war caches) you never lose it.....it also wouldn't make much sense to lose the ability.

Looks to me like your game is the one broken.

OP's issue is that he didn't join the RR/didn't do PAM's quests and now wants the BW, which he can't get because that's not a glitch.

Not in the least bit true, I only work for those tools long enough to get BW then I murder them all.

You did buy a BGS game at launch right? So the answer will have to be yes. Congratulations, you just paid to have the opportunity to be a BGS QA guy! (Join the club ). Save often, and enjoy your replay.

I was never given any missions by the railroad or the institute, so guess I missed out on a ton of content. Sigh.. Thanks for the replies, maybe there is a chance of redemption seeing as I did not have to destroy the brotherhood or the RR, one of the RR npc's finally somewhat talked to me and said as the leader of the Minutemen I need to keep my distance from them for now. The for now, gives me hope they will be patched/updated in a dlc maybe. So here's hoping..

Also I noticed that when returning to talk to scribe Haylen of the brotherhood, I am at first greeted with disgust for some reason I can't recall. Then after talking again I am thanked for saving Paladin Danse (Who I know in my cousins game turns out to be synth and you have a choice to kill/spare him) but I never saw any inkling of anything related to this in game? Now I just get quartermastery quests. I'm fairly sad I missed a lot of content... not really sure why thats a thing that is able to happen.

Well, I don't think your game is broken. You just advanced in MQ where point of no return. Meaning, you are not allowe to join certain factions and some factions may be hostile (npc wont talk to you). Here is a list of allhttp://www.gamesas.com/topic/1581396-how-to-make-friends-with-all-factions-at-the-same-time/ (OP: how to make friends with all factions at the same time).

Ps! I have no idea who wrote the guidlines at Polygon web site, but sure they did a great job to explain the pros and cons by doing the quests.

As far as I can see out of your post, you should not shoot any at Institute before you have done some sidequests/misc for RR. RR don't like if your working for someone else and that goes for every joinable factions. The ballistic weave thing may be bugged as wiki tells, but you have to do RR quests "Boston after dark" and "Mercer safehouse". It seems also you need to do some missions for P.A.M. (secure DIA caches). *If* you have done all the needed misc/sidequests for RR and still not be able to get the ballistic thing, it's a bug and can only be fixed by console command or Bethesda themselves since youre on xbox.

To prevent frustations and anger, save often (you cannot save the game too often). Read wiki about the quests youre about to do. Yeah, it makes break the surprise and makes you a little cheater, but it spares you the need of go several savegames back (or even restart the game).

Cheers,

-Klevs

But you don't have any choice, other than go through the motions until finally joining. The last point is the only optional one, since the RR is the only faction able to decode the courser chip.
