Game completley unplayable in Large townscities

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:19 am

This game is COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE for me in towns/cities , especially when around enemies and npcs. The frame rate basically goes to 0- 5 fps and lags to the point where it freezes. For the love of god someone please help. I have put all game settings to low with no avail. I can play fine in all other areas untill i go to large towns.

My specs: AMD R9 280X

AMD FX 4300 Quad core overclocked @ 4200Mhz

8GB RAM (3.95 Usable )

Having the same issue

Hi there guys. Back again.

AMD FX - 8350
EVGA GTX 970
16 GB Corsair RAM
gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3
500 GB SSD
750w Seasonic PSU

I purchased Fallout 4. In love with it.

My problem is:

When out in the woods/towards Sanctuary my FPS is 60, solid, easy, with all settings on Ultra + DSR x2.(1080p for me. I game on 1360 x 768 native). DSR x4 has fps issues, at times.

When I get closer to the city (exterior/open world. My FPS inside Diamond City, for example, is fine) and I am looking at the city I start to experience FPS drops.

When I am actually wandering inside the area (The commons) my FPS is constantly sitting between 20 - 30 FPS. This is quite a hit. I have tried lowering shadows to high from Ultra, shadow distance down a bit, etc. I tried enabling DSRx4 and disabling AA, no improvement, etc.

I'm wondering what is causing such a huge tank in FPS. many people suggest lowering the Shadow Distance to medium but that generates quite a hit in performance.

I can't see why God rays would effect my FPS when in town but not when I am outside.

I'm at a little bit of a loss here. Many people suggest making sure my GPU is set to adaptive V-Sync. I have yet to try this (Im at work) but im pretty sure I already have my GPU set to adaptive.

Can anyone think of any reason that would specifically cause this much of a drop in FPS compared to out by Sanctuary at 60 fps full ultra?

I didnt that serious fps drop, but yeah, crap optimized engine, so random fps drop. That's really annoying thoses poorly made games...

I mean seriously, that game need a gtx 980ti to run on ultra at barely more than 60fps when games like gta5 look way better and offer a ULTRA better optimization.. besthesda are truly boring to deliver such poor job when it come to finish / optimize their game...

It's really frustrating.

Going from 60 fps out in the woods, where it looks gorgeous maxed out, to like 20 or 30 fps or lower in city where I should be the most immersed for no reason at all?

I'm going to try setting my gpu to adaptive v sync, and if that doesnt work ill try borderless windowed. Im running out of ideas until they patch optimization issues. It really svcks.

Hi guys!
So, I went into my Nvidia control panel and sure enough my vsync was not set to adaptive. I simply turned adaptive on, then cranked everything back up to Ultra and now right smack downtown (outside Diamond City, one of the WORST places for FPS) and I am not dipping below 50 fps. Everywhere else, including inside Diamond city, I am capped at 60fps.
I did not mess with my ini's. I am still full screen. So happy. I may yet try to tweak my ini file to see if it will further improve, but I don't think I really need too. This is great.
