Game Crashes After Trading With Merchant

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 1:16 am

Putting the description in spoiler tags just in-case.

Spoiler
Just recently my game started crashing every time I got done trading with a merchant (the same one I traded with before with no problems) at the Mojave Outpost. Sure my graphics card is just slightly under the minimum, and that's going to be replaced soon, but if I was able to play without any problems for many hours for a couple of days and then it just decides to keep crashing at the same merchant no matter what, then my graphics card surely couldn't be the problem. All drivers updated. Latest directx. I even did .ini tweaks (and I'd wish NV would stop resetting my INI tweaks). If anyone wants a DX Diag, let me know. My processor's fine. My ram is a little under, but it's going to be fixed soon too. I love the game dearly, but the crashing, not so much.

Anyone getting the same problem? Everything was fine with it before the patch.

Same thing happened to me tonight. Ended up figuring out that it was whatever I was buying. I;ve been in the habit of buying every caravan playing card I run across and for some reason I would always get a crash if I bought a playing card from the merchant. I could sell, or buy some cards individually, but in the end it crashed so much trying to buy those cards from the merchant that I just gave up. No crashes since... Wonder if its an inventory bug...something when buying/sellling particular items. Wouldnt be the first bug of its kind. :-/

I think I've got this one figured out. It seems to only occur if you try to purchase a playing card that you already have in your inventory. I have not seen this issue anywhere else, it only occurs with the merchant at the outpost. I can purchase everything else from the merchant, including cards that i don't already own, with no problems. (I'm running Win 7 64bit).

Thanks for confirming this guys. I suppose I should've mentioned that all the cards in the merchant's inventory caught my eye. It was also a bummer because I was buying more 20 gauge shells and some .357 rounds as well as some 5.56mm (with some nice armor piercing rounds as well as some hollow-point. Yay multiple ammo types! Thank you Obsidian for the classic and awesome stuff!!) and then selling any crap I didn't need. I hope this issue is resolved soon, because it really doesn't make sense that you could have duplicates of other items but heaven forbid when you get multiple cards of the same type you violently get forced to the desktop. I just went ahead and said 'screw you' to the merchant as he walked by me. I just went pass him and headed back to Primm to conduct business. If this issue gets fixed soon, I won't have to fear picking out and buying the things I want when I talk to the guy. I have loads of ammo and other junk, and somehow the same kind of card crashes my game. lol I guess I'll try only buying and selling ammo this time and maybe some water and totally leave the cards alone until the issue is fixed.

However, I never encountered this problem before in Fallout 3 or Oblivion, strange. Maybe I'm either lucky or just missed out on the fun. lol Well, I think this conclusion makes sense. Inventory bugs have been reported before, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised.

I have this problem too, good to see its narrowed down to the one merchant however. Also that its a common problem and hopefully will be resolved in another patch. Keep up the good work Obsidian Entertainment/Bethesda Softworks.

Im starting to like the more crude style to fallout, i hope there are a lot of charismatic/gender options in the game. (like fallout 2)

Just as I suspected. To confirm this was the problem for me, I avoided the cards. Went for the ammo. Good thing too, otherwise I'd be all in a tither for something that will probably be fixed down the line. I just have to avoid the cards when trading with caravans and make sure if I find any cards other than the caravans to avoid looting them.
