[Help] Game crashes directly on startup through FOSE

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:59 pm

Some guy at Nexus pointed out that I was missing some MMM-files btw. Dunno which he was talking about but I found one that I think I should have.

"Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp", it said I should have that one since I'm not using the other Alternative Configuration Modules.

I deactivated everything except for these:

Fallout3.esm
Anchorage.esm
ThePitt.esm
BrokenSteel.esm
PointLookout.esm
Zeta.esm
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esm
DarNifiedUIF3.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Anchorage.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC The Pitt.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Broken Steel.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Point Lookout.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Mothership Zeta.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Alternate Travel.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Followers Enhanced (BrokenSteel).esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Project Beauty.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Project Beauty (Followers Enhanced).esp

Rebuilt the merged patch and tested it without Gboost - crashed. Tested it with Gboost running - crashed aswell.

"Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp", it said I should have that one since I'm not using the other Alternative Configuration Modules.

Already built into the FWE-MMM patch, so not needed when using FWE.

I deactivated everything except for these:

FO3 Wanderers Edition - Project Beauty.esp
FO3 Wanderers Edition - Project Beauty (Followers Enhanced).esp

Rebuilt the merged patch and tested it without Gboost - crashed. Tested it with Gboost running - crashed aswell.
Those will require the Project Beauty.esm to be running as well, so make sure it is active.

If it is, then you have problems. A basic install like that should function.

It's crashing right after the gamesas logo?

It's crashing right after the "Please Stand By"-screen.

Aight, so I deactivated the FWE - Project Beauty.esps. Rebuilt the merged patch. Tried with/without Gboost and it crashed both times, right after the "Please Stand By".

By the way, dunno if this is worth mentioning, but on every .esp-file in FOMM i get this:

"WARNING: This plugin has the file extension .esp, but its file header marks it as an esm!"

That's just a side effect of the FO3MasterUpdate function. Actually, it's not a side effect, it's the main effect. It makes all your files behave like master files (ESMs) because this helps stability for some strange reason.

Are you using the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1085562-wipzbeta-darnified-ui-f3/ install file first and then the one from FWE, or are you only putting in the one from FWE? That could be your issue this whole time. You do need the main Darn UI file first and then overwrite it with the FWE one. I am not 100% sure if you need the hotfix as well, but I install the main file, the fix to overwrite, then the FWE one to overwrite again. Probably safe to delete your FALLOUT.INI file (My Documents\My Games\Fallout3), and then let Fallout make you a new one before you do all of this.

Aight, trying that right now then, I'll write all this in the exact order I'm doing it.

Deleting the FALLOUT.INI file
Launching through FalloutLauncher.exe - game crashed - new INI created
Removing DarNifiedUIF3
Rebuilding Merged patch
Installing dui_f3a11.fomod
Installing the dui_f3a11_HF.7z
Installing the DarnUI_Support_for_FWE_6-02-2761.7z
Rebuilding Merged patch
Launching Fallout3 (Run fose) through FOOM, without Gboost running - crashed after "Please Stand By"

Launching Fallout3 (Run fose) through FOOM, with Gboost running - YEAH IT WORKED!

So what now?

Sorry for double-posting, but I just gotta say that I've finally resolved this problem!

The mod that's apparently crashing my game is, sad but true, "skyforest.esp". If you know any way to make this work with the other mods I'm using then let me know. I'm gonna pm the creator of it aswell to see if he knows anything about it, cuz that mod is looking beyond superb.

Anyways, huge thanks to showler, ghoulsrpeople2 and Miss Sparkle for helping me out here!

So yeah, I'm experiencing crashes again. Now it's happening when I'm saving though. The crashes are happening at random locations when I'm trying to save. I'm not using autosave, since I've heard that it could mess up the game.

Also I found these errors while creating a new merged patch (deleted the skyforest mod)
