Good news:I also bought it for the Xbox360 so i can wait out the fix

Worst news:I have to get up in an hour and a half.

Just wondering if everyone who has the problem had it preloaded or if you bought it after it was unlocked then dloaded it. BTW the file that wasn't verified on mine was only 639 kb or so.Same thing tho tried verifying several times and the same file would download and not reverify.

@theminer49er.....Captain Obvious you have been promoted to Commander Keen....don't read whole threads much huh.

no I do not....I pre loaded.... same thing happened to me...I re verified it worked for me....I just put it up there to help... wasn't feeling like having story hour next time I won't bother....kack

I run Windows 7 and AMD HD 5870 video card.

I was amazed when I started the game and lo and behold the exact same problem I had with Fallout 3 was happening with New Vegas. Do a search for the fix for this in the Fallout 3 forums and download the D3D9.DLL file and put in your fallout new vegas folder.

I did that and the game has been running well with the exception of a few dialog sound files which is probably related to the USB headset I use.

Here is the link where I discovered the fix for Fallout 3 that works for Fallout New Vegas as well.

So you were running the game and crashing out to windows after the opening cinematic when the game starts to load?

Yes! The game would just stop responding after the opening cinematic.

I have tried restarting steam, restarting computer, defrag game files, verify game cache, different Windows compatibility mode settings, running as Administrator.

I pretty much did everyting i could do on my end. So now i uninstalled, and im DLing it again. 36min till completion.

I did this twice with no improvement. I uninstalled and bought it at Wal-Mart :P Waiting on a refund from Steam.

Does steam offer refunds if you have problems with the game? I might do the same and buy it for 360. I really wanted the PC version too, but this is ridiculous.

Morning after. No patch, problems still exists. Somehow got a virus, not sure it that has to do with any of this. But im all cleaned up, and my FO:NV is still broke. This d3d9.dll fix: Is NV supposed to be using DirectX 10 or 11? Why would it be using 9?

I did the same and it would not start the launcher after placing this D3D9.DLL in the folder.. Deleted it and the launcher comes back.

Uh where exactly did you place the dll file? I place it in the NV folder (the one containing the .exe (c>Program Files(x86)>steam>steamapps>common>falloutnv) and it won't even start the launcher any longer until I delete the dll.

HOLY [censored] I GOT IT WORKING!

I changed the windows compatibility to Vista SP2 on both the launcher and the game itself. Now it works. I hope this is my only issue from here on out.

Like a few others have stated, this also worked for me. I simply placed the .dll in the FNV folder in common and started up the game with no problems or crashes. Played a bit and explored the first town with no issues. Hopefully it sticks.

Just so people have another person confirming, this also just worked for me. So far so good.

Edit: and now after getting 3 minutes further then before, I crashed.

Just so people don't write this problem off as fixed and proceed to ignore it, the above fix did NOT work for me and many others.

Yes this is not a for sure fix as I would like NV to be running the way it is supposed to just like I wanted the original to work as well. the sad fact is this was the only way I could get the original game to work and it just happened to work for NV as well.

As for if it is running in DX10 or 11 I can not answer but the effects sure suggest it.

Come on Bethesda fix this already. This issue has been around from the original game.
