Game crashes just as I'm being born everytime

I just bought Fallout 3 GOTY for GFW but now when I try to get the game going it crashes just as I'm being born.

I've now tried updating with GFWL and that seemed to work 'till I got to walking towards Dad and now it's back to it's old tricks and freezing the screen about a minute in.

Open up the .ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3. *Do not alter the one in the actual game directory labeled Fallout_Default_ini*
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

I have tried this and it has slowed the freezing to allow me to save before it happens and slowly (half an hour) make my way to just before the GOAT!
