Game crashes very minute or so.

This is a recurring problem I have. I have no idea what causes it. Suddenly, the game just won't run for more than a minute or two without crashing. It eventually goes away, and for some reason I can prevent it from crashing by saving every few seconds. I don't know if it just goes away on its own, or if my constant saving eventually fixes it. I know that if I stop saving too soon, I'll still have the problem. I've had this problem even before I started using mods, and using mods does NOT change the frequency of this happening.

Right now, it seems that it keeps happening faster and faster. I was walking to dragonbridge from solitude, and my game crashed as soon as I got to dragon bridge. Next try, crashes right before I get there. Third time, crashes right after I try to loot a body (got ambushed on the road leading to dragonbridge). Fourth time, crashed as soon as the fight ended. And well, most of those times it just froze. Once it did just crash to desktop with no warning or error message or anything, as it usually does. I recently installed two new mods from the workshop (touring carriages and the unofficial patch, legendary edition). I tried to removing those, thinking it was causing the issue, but removing one or both changes nothing. Even putting them both back in changes nothing.

What causes this??? I'm sick of it and I want a flipping solution other than saving every few seconds for several hours.

And yes, the game normally runs fine. I don't have any texture packs, or anything that would make it lag. The game runs fine, but randomly will start doing this for no reason, and will keep doing it for several hours then suddenly start acting like nothing's wrong.

edit: Decided to try again, after waiting a while. Saved every few seconds, and as soon as the fight ends, the game crashes to desktop. Omg, this is getting ridiculous. What am I supposed to do to stop this???

edit2: tried again, turned down the shadows from medium to low, since that fixed the problem for someone else. Did the fight again, it didn't crash when I defeated him, though the fight ended faster than usual. I tried to open his inventory, the window showed up with nothing in it, then it froze. It just keeps happening faster and faster and I don't know why. Why would it happen sooner and sooner each time I play the game? That makes no sense!

edit3: I guess I should've named this thread 'freezes every few minutes'. Anyway, noticed my comp wanted to do an update, so I let it. Restarted the machine, and tried again, thinking that maybe that was the issue. No. It froze again, and immediately after I made a save.

Why does this keep happening??? There's no logical reason why it should freeze faster and faster each time, especially after a re-start. This makes no logical sense.

edit4: Found something about verifying the game cache or something like that would fix the freezing problem. It claimed it couldn't verify one file, so I did it a second time, and it came up the same result. It appeared to fix the freezing problem, though I just suddenly crashed to desktop after a few minutes.

The thing also reset my graphics settings, so I put them at medium. Then while playing I noticed the render distance was crap (animals and people would just materialize out of thin air about 10 feet infront of me), so I increased the render distance and that made my fps drop.

The machine I'm running this on is old as crap, I got it around the time windows 7 came out, so yeah. I can't run any games that are coming out now, and the games I do play I can't run above medium graphics. I guess I just need to somehow find the cash and upgrade my system. It would be nice to actually be able to run skyrim at max graphics, and with a high resolution mod maybe if I could.

edit5: I managed to stop the crashes. The launcher was able to detect my system, and determined that I needed to play with low graphics. Oh well. I guess I can still play the game, even if not optimally.

What are your comp. specs and at which resolution do you play, and get those crashes?
