Hope that someone can help me out with this. I am running oblivion game of the year edition on 64bit windows 7 professional. The game has been running fine for several hours of game play but when I approach skingrad it crashes. I've tried running at the lowest settings, have toggled the value of bDoSpecularPass in the oblivion.ini file but this has no effect. It crashes as soon as I get close to skingrad. I've also tried running oblivion as admin.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try to get past this point?

Managed to fix this. I bought the game via steam and right clicked the game from within steam, choose properties, chose "local files" and then selected to "verify integrity of game cache". After a couple of minutes it informed me that a couple of files failed validation and would be re downloaded. I let it download over 600mb of files and after that I'm able to get to skingrad
