Game crashes when trying to serve jail time

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:12 am

Hey guys, i need some help.

I decided to replay Oblivion on the PS3. I have the 5th Anniversary Edition.

I started my game a while ago but got distracted by Skyrim. Anyway, i got my character to level 3 and somehow ended up with a bounty of 1025. If i remember correctly it was strange how i got the bounty. I think i was attacked and when i fought back i got the bounty.

So i decide to serve my time but everytime i select the bed, the game crashes forcing a hard reset of the PS3.

I know i'm still early in the game but i don't want to start again just to have this happen again and again.

Can anyone help me with some info on this? I've searched the web extensivley to no avail. I'm looking for the cause of the crash so i can avoid it if i start a new game and/or a solution.

Thanks.

Do you have an earlier save you can revert to? It's possible that your save game has become corrupt, particularly if you rely heavily on the Autosave.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, i've got earlier saves. I ALWAYS rotate around a minimum of 6 saves, sometimes a few more. I've learned that lesson too many times to only rely on 1 save or just the autosave!

I'm just worried it will happen again, thats why i am trying findout the cause of the glitch, to hopefully avoid it and a solution for when it does occur. I've been searching for quite a long time but to no avail. Its like this has never happened to anyone else!

There are some crashes - particularly ones of this nature - that simply don't have any explanation other than "Oblivion is a really complicated game, and sometimes the save game gets corrupted". That's especially true the longer you play the game - look up the ABomb or Nuked Cell bugs sometime. Eventually, EVERYONE runs into problems like this one, and there's not much you can do other than go to an earlier save.

Personally, I would recommend not rotating between 6 saves, and instead creating a new save every single time (if you can). I've had to go back nearly 200 saves before due to problems like this one, though that's not too frequent.

I own the 5th Anniversary Edition for the PC as well but i don't have it here and i wanted to try and play it without modding or using the console (i'm easily tempted)

I've started a new game. Hopefully i won't get the same issue again. I was just hoping it was a known issue with a clear cause/solution, but, oh well! :)

I'll try making a new save each time.

Anyway, thanks for the advice.
