Game crashing after intro Resolved Resolved Gamer OSD : Fallout: New Vegas

I have just upgraded to a new PC and Fallout: New Vegas is crashing after the intro when I start a new game.
I have tried deleting my .ini files and verifying the integrity of the game cache in Steam, neither seemed to help.

Asus gamer OSD has been known to conflict. Smart Doctor seems to be a culprit as well. Try uninstalling either or both for troubleshooting.

BTW, are you using an USB external sound card? Where do you connect your headset?

Does not look like you have your motherboard drivers installed, or a full set anyway. That will also give you a sound card for the game to use.

Do you have the game installed in the stock location? I think FNV is OK stock, but most install it somewhere else, like in C:\Games

I believe my motherboard is correctly installed and my sound is working perfectly.

I allow Steam to install the game into where ever its default location is, however I installed Steam into my games folder on my secondary physical 2TB harddrive while windows is installed on my primary 120GB SSD harddrive. I am pretty sure Steam is placing all my Steam games in a location on my secondary drive in the Steam folder.

I am using the default sound system which is part of my motherboard with a 5.1 speaker set connected to rear audio ports. I am currently plugging my headset into the anolog Microphone and headphone ports plus one of the USB port (new Razer Carcharias needs all 3) on my powered USB hub, I used to plug it into my computer's front panel audio ports but I seemed to get some sort of feedback noise in headphones.

After looking around the net for further solutions I have managed to fix the issue and get the game running.
I tried several different settings, windows compatibility modes, removing the intro video and re-installing the game several times. None of which worked for me. Finally I did another clean install and set the all launcher/application files to Win XP sp3 compatibility with disabling visual themes, desktop composition, display scaling and setting run as an Administrator and I downloaded a d3d9.dll file from Nexus. This made it work perfectly. I am not sure it was the .dll file alone or a combination of the .dll, compatibility settings and clean install, either way I am happy the game now works.

That compatibility mode is what fixed it. That DLL file was no longer needed for the stock game soon after launch. I think it is used for some of the ENB mods.

For this issue the d3d9.dll file is essential.
I tried removing it and the problem came straight back. It must be something to do with my AMD graphics card, because I noticed with this .dll it thinks I have a Geforce card.

It's the effect of the d3d9.dll.
It will cause the game to show that you have a geforce 7900.

Do you have Asus gamer osd installed? Any other kind of overclocking software?

I believe I do have Assus gamer OSD or something similar installed. I had it installed and setup by the shop when I purchased my computer. I dont know much about overclocking so I am not going to test uninstalling or turning it off as I will not be albe to re-install and set it back up correctly. The game appears to be working well enough for me as can be expected. I am getting some issues when try to enter into Freeside where the game just continues to load forever, but I gather it is a fairly common issue with no solution.

I feel my original issue was completly solved by the d3d9.dll file as I have since turned off all the compatibility settings I setup and the game has continued work properly and has no trouble starting new games or loading saves.

Just asking, since there is a conflict between Asus gamer OSD and FalloutNV. The two cause new game crashes.

It's just a program that lets you change video card settings on the fly during a game, not something that is really needed, at any time, ever. But, we are not asking you to uninstall it, just stop it from loading with windows, or shutting it down for testing. Besides, you can download the program anytime you want to
