Game is darker now [FIX FOUND]

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 2:16 pm

It's from the SSDO.

What he siad, you guys are uber dorks, have you ever gone to NY? Its f*ckin pitch black because of the high buildings casting shadows, if anything the game is Uber realistic now.

I dont care about realism in an sci-fi game you idiot!!! the game was just great and sweet smooth before patch 1.9 . Almost Killzone 3 like. The lightning was nice, the objects looked nice.

Now it's a dark crap as if all the postprocessing is off!!! wtf is this horror mode? at least they should have implemented visual option as in FarCry and Crysis : Vivid,Cold,Cartoonish, Dark, Bright!

+1

I dont care if it was photo realistic or even a real movie i just dont needs that ghay effect.

SSDO is doing this and it's not a mistake. It disables the global illumination. Places that should really be illuminated from a light-source are bright, places with no light-source shining on them are dark. It's realistic. I like it.

Well thats a start. Now maybe if someone manages to find a way so we can disable SSDO which is (Contact Shadows if im correct) and enjoy the game as it was before this 1.9 patch.

it's normal.. and very realistic now. go out, look into the sun and go back into your house.. now the rooms look "dark"...

disable DX11, if you don't like it. i for myself love the new atmosphere and all the other improvements!

Thats HDR. As i said i dont even use the DX11 patch !! i dont care about realistic, i care about how it looks. And right now it looks **** awful with this **** realistic feature !!

Skyline map is entirely illuminated by the Sun yet it's **** pitch black the objects and where the shadows are projected. Even the weapon themselves !!

man, screw it, I and many others who play mp dont want the game to be realistic as real life. We just want it not to hurt eyes, which right now it is doing very well. Idont know and really dont care about idea behind this implementation, but now game looks like 8-bit video shot on mobile phone at the nightime. Btw Minecraft edition - is the best possible definition to the current dx9 graphics.
PS Has anyone tried running with r_SSDO = 0 in config? does it work?

Try using r_SSAO settings. Turn it to 2 or 3.

Because SSDO is an improved variant of SSAO.

* I found the solution *

The new dark effect comes the new enhanced color grading. To disable the color grading, you have to use the command r_colorgrading = 0. Either punch it into the console manually or put in in an autoexec.cfg file.

With him, either you take it as progress, or Iggy The Pick will shove it down your throat and your going to like it!!

The new color-grading is amazing. I love the darker look. It's like how NY should look, even though i've never been to NY.
Great job, Crytek. Can't wait to play this at 60+ fps in about 3 years. xD

This darkness hurts my eyes and my FPS... both suffer from this new patch. Just release a quick 1.9.1 patch with the option to disable the SSAO or SSDO.
Or make a 2.0 patch with everything set to max and with no option to change graphics... (is it so hard to enable all graphical settings in the options menu? AA, FSAA, AF, SSAO etc...)
At first there where 3 settings, and noone knew what they mean. Then they got smarter, added correct names to settings, then added advanced settings aka ability to change shading or water separately.. They need a while to figure this out.

What? you ever play Crysis wars? no? well it was a multiplayer game only a select few could enjoy, this is how Crysis 2 for the PC should have been from the start.

The SSDO isn't causing the problem. It's the new upgrade they've done on Color Grading. The effect is way too severe.

The command r_colorgrading = 0 will get rid of it.

He's right; after just a quick look, r_colorgrading = 0 (in autoexec) seems to solve the problem nicely.

its not working for me, game looks still dark and i am having extremely low fps.
framerate droped from 40 to 18.
i typed this command in game console and created a autoexec.cfg in crysis2 folder.

Thanks alot guys! that was it! as if the colour grading was heavy saturated after patch 1.9. No more dark areas everywhere!
