Game file corrupt/missing after buying and equipping silence

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:54 pm

Ok I'll attempt this again because apparently the word "mod" is automatically assumed to mean I used GECK and not meant to describe an actual ALREADY EXISTING "mod" aka PART FOR A GUN THAT YOU BUY FROM AN NPC in the game and "modify" your weapon with - regardless of clearly explaining it multiple times in more ways than I can imagine.

Okay so I purchased a silencer to equip to aka "mod" my Weathered 10mm pistol from the Classic pack. Let me take a moment to rephrase so we're clear - "mod" here is used to define a feature that was built into the game to add things like silencers, scopes, extra-capacity magazines, etc to your weapons. I hope that's crystal.

Anyways, upon doing so, the gun itself vanishes and is replaced with a giant red box with a white !. When zoomed into first-person mode it obstructs my vision with a thick white haze.

SCREENSHOTS:

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/6760/weathered10mmcorrupt01.png

The gun still works, but is invisible. This is rather annoying and my question was if there will be a file to fix this included in the next patch.

My 2nd quesion was, can I disable/re-enable the .esm file for the Classic pack and have it give me a new pistol, or perhaps delete and re-install the .esm file for the Classic pack to have it give me a new one?

And last but not least, sorry for sounding so bitter but I was quite irritated that my first thread was misinterpreted so badly and moved into a place where there's no hope for help. Hopefully this time it will be left alone here in the PC issues forum where it belongs. I'll re-iterate. I never used GECK, I don't have it, and I didn't attempt to "make a mod" for this game.

I think this might be what you need:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34794

I can't confirm that it works or not since I'm on dial-up and will be patching the friggin game for about a week or so more before I can play it...

Hope it helps.

That seems like it would be the fix, but where did it come from? Is that site credible?

I know there are more people having this issue, even people on consoles also. Can someone confirm this fix?

Also, can anyone confirm whether or not the DLC weapons were actually intended to have "mods" equipped or if there is a glitch that didn't prevent me from putting the silencer on it?

The Nexus is a very credible website. Either the developers didn't think to add custom meshes for each DLC weapon, or you weren't supposed to be able to mod them to begin with. Either way, you can mod them and they do not have custom meshes for each weapon attachment.

It does the same thing with a laser sight. I have yet to come across a third mod to try it on, but it seems any mod on the weathered 10mm turns it into a giant white box...

It's a verified bug.

You are not supposed to be able to modify unique weapons. That is a unique weapon.

Can you remove modifications?

Seems that'd be a lovely fix.

I will try that fix then, if you believe it is safe.

I figured as much. If this fix works then yippee for having the ability to mod a weapon that we weren't supposed to! :celebration:

Thank you guys so much for the help! :D

Oh and if it doesn't work, can anyone verify whether or not uninstalling/disabling then reinstalling/enabling the Classic pack will give me a fresh new Weathered 10mm?

I'm pretty sure it won't. I know if you disable the DLC and try to load your game it will say you are missing content and ask you to continue.
Maybe if you load your game without the DLC it will delete the 10mm weathered pistol and then you can try reloading the DLC and reloading your game again and get another one maybe?

That was supposed to be a workaround for the 360, as it has the exact same issue.

I'll give it a go.

Okay, simply clicking the Classic Pack off of the Data Files in the launcher does not work. I suspect that the Data Files in the launcher isn't actually doing what it's supposed to.

But - you can remove the Classic Pack files from your Data folder to a temporary location, load your game, accept that there are missing items and save (make a separate save just in case), place the files back and reload and it should work.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I am not having this problem though so I am not going to bother to try it.

Well I'll try fix 1 first, by replacing the missing meshes with those from a standard 10mm pistol - because if I can keep the silencer on my special 10mm...then you better believe I will!!

I'll try 2nd option if that doesn't work, I'll let you know either way.

I got the same problem when adding the silencer and/or the extended capacity magazine for it too. Thought it would rock having a bigger magazine and a silencer but it became unusable with that big graphic glitch. Guess I will check out Nexus.

It worked. For the most part. I had one bug after doing this and it involved my hand/gun/reticle completely vanishing when I was in combat in 1st person view, but zooming out to 3rd person and then back into 1st fixed it for me. That only happened once.
