Game freezing in first two minutes every time

Post » Fri Sep 17, 2010 3:07 am

Ok, so far, I've tried patch 1.4.0.6 and the most current one (1.7) and it hasnt changed anything. I tried updating directx. I tried a clean boot. I tried reinstalling. I have fallout 3 GOTY edition. I tried to find my ini file but its just not there..? I know if i'm changing that, that I should just change the fallout 3 one or whatever but i cant find either ini file anyhow. What happens is my game freezes early on when I start playing usually in the first 10 seconds, so when I'm choosing girl or boy or before. Game just locks right up and I have to ctrl alt delete. i have an i5 processor and a ati radeon 5850 1G with 6g of corsair ram triple channel. two hard drives solid state 32g and 1 TB drive

Use the quadcore fix since you have a CPU with 4 threads.
Open up the .ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3. *Do not alter the one in the actual game directory labeled Fallout_Default_ini*
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

I tried to find that .ini file but I can't locate it. First of all fallout 3 is located on my 2nd harddrive so it doesnt have a my documents or my games just a fallout 3 folder and a data folder. I looked in the fallout 3 folder and cant find any .ini file. Is it hidden? and if so how do i get the hidden items to show up in windows 7. Also i forgot to mention i have windows 7 64 bit.

It doesnt matter where the game is located, unless you changed the location of the My Documents folder. It is located in,
C:\Users\(Your Username)\ My Documents\My Games\Fallout 3 and its the .ini file in there called FALLOUT.

I have tried this and it hasn't worked for me.

No game is worth this much hassle surely!

The fact of the matter is that there is no hassle for the great majority. It is only a percentage of the buyers with the problems, although it has seemed (to me, just from anecdotal sources) that the GOTY version introduced some new problems that hadn't existed before, so the percentage may have crept higher.
