In game hair growth?

Post » Fri Oct 15, 2010 8:42 pm

I thought it would be sweet to make our caracters more realistic and have the hair and beards grow on their own (as well as choosing styles at the beginning of the game through caracter creation) to give you the option to change your hair and beard styles when you want or just let it grow all out.
I also think it's about time they make it so your character can be left handed too if you choose them to be. Oh! And being able to change the height of the races a little too!
I always do a damn good job making my character look exactly like me and I want him to finally be left handed like me as well.

I know what's done is done and the game isn't going to change now but do you still think it's a sweet idea?

The hair growth thing seems a bit much. But as for the other thing, from what I can tell, there's nothing from stopping you from defining your left hand as your main hand now.

I don't know, I think it would be too much unnecessary work, but you should be able to change your hairstyle. FO3 had it, why shouldn't Skyrim?

I wholeheartedly agree with the left-handed thing, since I'm a southpaw myself.

No. They could spend the time they would be wasting on this useless stuff on dragons, weapon crafting, beards, etc.

No thanks. I want my character to stay exactly as they look when I create them.

Not against the hair growing, but just a barber or some feature to change hair/facial hair after creation would be enough for me.

I don't want either. I don't want my character's hair to automatically grow, but I want barbers capable of changing hair styles/length after character creation instead of having my characters' hair stay the same.

Hair growing would just be an annoyance in the grand scheme of things. As for lefties, the dual wield system now allows you to put your weapon in whatever hand you want, or both if you so desire.

I create my character as-is for a reason. I don't want my character to change appearance over time.

Maybe one day when games like this are practically virtual reality simulations, but until then, no.

That's a level of detail I can do without.

I do hope we can change hair/beard styles after creation, though.

Honestly I hope there's a console command to access the face editor. So often in these games I make my character and then run around for 2 hours before deciding, man, that nose really looks weird, I wish I could change it.

If it's a simple thing to implement, then sure. It adds a little bit of realism and could be a nice touch. But if it would take 10 guys 3 days to do, nah. I am fine without it.

I feel like that would get annoying; having to shave my character's face. It's bad enough I have to do it in real life.

No. There is a point where realism just gets ridiculous.

Haha most of you have made very valid points and thank you. I guess it could be compared to choose where you want your character to digest last night's crab meat dinner. A barber NPC in large cities would be a great idea. Not everything in video games are supposed to make sense. But I believe it's the realistic details that make their company's games more interesting. Like in the latest Fallout game how you had the option of 'hardcoe Mode' when you HAD to keep hydrated and eat. They said in gamerscore that they now will have the leaves on trees move individually when the wind blows. I think that's more unnecessary than in game hair growth. If there were a barber then you could always go back to your starter hair. : }
I also wanted to say I miss the khajiit and argonians having claws. I also miss skweering mudcrabs and thrusting speers in the faces of wood elves.

Wouldn't this be difficult to implement? Isn't each hairstyle a separate model/texture? Wouldn't they have to make tons and tons of them to make the growth gradual?

It seems like a nice but unrealistic thing to hope for.

To everyone: You don't need to just leave comments saying, "no" in a nutshell. That's why I created a poll. I wish I could delete your comments but I can't so please stop if you read this before you leave your comment. Please understand that it's a waste of space.

Hell to the no, what do you think I do all that tinkering in character creation for? Hint: Not for some damn uppity game to muck with my character as it sees fit.
