Game has a kind of..."hiccup"?

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2015 6:14 pm

Hi there, apart from the typical crash I get when I try to start the game, when and if I manage to actually get to the main screen and load the game, there's kind of a "hiccup" while moving.

When I walk around in the game every 2-3 meters it's as if something is pushing the camera forward a bit for a sec.

I don't know how to explain it,it's as if the game's "stumbling" for just a tiny bit,but it's very annoying.

I've got a GeForce GTX 960 card,8 GB RAM( sorry I'm not good with technical stuff).

Apart from that,I too have problems with the game crashing when I try to start it.

[Might be] stuttering due to variable framerate. You can cap framerate so that it is more stable.

OP a word to the wise, if you want to be a PC gamer you need to get a grip on the technical stuff. You'll come across lots of little problems with all sorts of games and software/hardware over the years, and you need to deal with them. Bit of advice :)

Start up game in borderless window mode, turn on vsync at your graphic driver settings, make sure iPresentInterval=1 under Fallout4Prefs.ini

Actually the game has Vsync enabled by default. !!! (in any related ini file)

Check in your Nvidia control panel under Verical sync that it's set to ON or "Use the 3D application setting"

You can use msi afterburner to cap framerate. Vsync (cap at monitor's refresh rate) should be enabled by default, however this could still be higher than your average framerate. So you'll have to cap it lower like 30fps. Although I don't know what gtx 960 performance should be.

Upload the video to YouTube and copy the link information after 'watch' in the URL.

On Ultra with an fast processor, max fps should be near 60 aprox.

No way on Ultra shadows and godrays. I'd even say medium at best, with ultra textures, to get a fairly solid 60.

Well, ultra settings means ultra settings. !!! Medium is not Ultra anymore, IS IT?

Don't be always so absolute... :P, just be a little more - let's say open minded. (?!?)

Godrays and to a lesser extent shadows will cause slowdowns if set to Ultra. Its not always an issue, but depending on what you are looking at it can lower the framerate. With everything at Ultra I normally get what those graphs state, but it can drop to ~45fps (not enough to skew an average) if I look at a tree just right and the computer has to calculate all those lighting effects. Ultra godrays/shadows would complete destroy a GTX 960.

The test was made on ultra preset, so everything ultra except the God rays. God rays are only high.

Testing CPU: I7-6700K

Even so, those results are spectacular for an GPU that costs less than 200 bucks. !!!

True, ridiculously priced CPU though. Better to drop to an i5 and bump up to a 980 for gaming I'd reckon :)

Those min 51 frames will really show in areas.

You think the i7 6700k is ridiculously overpriced? :lmao: Its quite average. Yes, AMD processors are cheaper, but they also perform poorly unless overclocked, and they also have extremely high TDPs. What's the i7 5930K or i7 5960X then.

Its a bit overpriced now because of limited stock. I got one for 370USD (its now 420USD). If you get the i5 you lose 4 threads.

£300+, plus a new Motherboard, is a little pricy. I feel getting a better GPU like a 980 for about £350, than going for a lower 960, is better for gaming. I thought that was basic? Don't need no i7 for gaming "son" :P

It's the same as getting a supercar and limiting the speed to 40 mph. Seems a waste to couple a low end 960 with a high end desktop CPU. Bottlenecks a' rampant.

I've had zero issues with any games running an I5 4690k and an 980... Infact, Fallout 4 has been a nice smooth experience until the latest patch has made things worse.

I thing the i7 6700K for 370 bucks is a very good deal. That processor is a monster.

Yes - it seems a bit pricey, but Intel CPUs are the most suitable if gaming is your first priority (and not only)...the're is no doubt about that.

@Goatsnatcher

This latest (official) patch seems to working fine on me, after a bit of tweaking of course. (at least until now).

@mark. Yeah I'm not sure what's going on tbh, I had a go this morning and it seems fairly smooth again and I've had no more corrupt save's as of yet.

I'm starting to wonder if things may be related to win 10? I only just recently in the last few day's received a fairly substantial update for that and it's sinse then things went a little shaky. I don't no, just keep an eye on it for now I suppose, and hope it's settled down.

On a side note. I also ran ccleaner lastnight so that has maybe helped, I know it's helped in the past.
