I was already worried about this dragon born stuff being pushed too hard on the player. I certainly hope that stuff can be bypassed by the player, at least until we choose to do it(if we do). Now it seems our character is going to have a predefined voice in order to be able to do the shouts.
I'm not saying the shouts don't sound cool or useful, but I don't want my character in this game pretty much predefined.
In oblivion the PC made grunts that where pretty short and general.
I wonder if we will be able to choose a voice now.

The updates for the final week sound awesome.

"We also wanted to let you know that there's more to come. We have some exciting new gameplay details and glimpses into the Bethesda studio coming next week. Check back in the coming days and you'll find a dedicated article on the combat of Skyrim, including Bethesda's exciting dual-hand approach to battles. We'll have a video about the talented art team and the work they do at the studio. In addition, watch for a focused piece on Skyrim's completely overhauled user interface and menu system, and how it differs from what you remember in Oblivion. "

I'm actually sort of pleased with this. I've been wanting some wallpapers for awhile now.

Though I'd prefer them to not have the Game Informer logo...

Nice update! It kind of reminds of the episode of Merlin where Merlin meets his father who is the last Dragon Lord, Uther Pendragon had all the others hunted down and killed. Anyway Merlin's father gets killed and Merlin then becomes a Dragon Lord and is able to us his voice to control the dragon.

Atleast we got a confirmation of whats to come... Can't wait til next week. I've been waiting to hear more about the combat system since I first read about it. I didn't particularly like the combat in Oblivion, I settled for a archer most the time, but with the revamped combat system, from the little I've read about it. I think it's just what a new TES game needed.

Also the User Interface, left, right, up, down system sounds interesting.

I really like this Dragon Shout system, at least for certain character concepts, but hopefully it won't be too overpowered, like if it was way more powerful than magic. What would be the point of being a specialist mage when you can be a hearty shouting barbarian that can get brute force and superpower magic effects?

I agree completely about having character voice sets like Neverwinter Nights 2 if they they can do that! Hopefully, they can get many more people for voice acting this time around so maybe we can get variation in NPC voices and selectable voice sets for the player that would affect Dragon Shouts (or short incantations for spells too would be amazing!)

Eagerly awaiting for some more info on combat now!

Good point. Still, magic's more versatile, and I expect there will be a limit to the shouts - something like use only one or two in a day. How did magic feel anyway in Oblivion ? Never got around truly using it. Powerful enough so you could go pure mage in fights ?

Wouldn't mind the overpowered-ness, provided the challenge your enemies put you to increase drastically at the same time, forcing you to use those powerful advantages - be they magic, stealth or shouts - in a careful and clever way.

True enough, as long as they keep a large variety of effects individual for shouts/spells, then it would be fine to be more powerful. And l like your idea about limiting shouts per rest or per day, as I'm sure it'd be hard enough on your voice just yelling a couple of shouts in Draconic speech lol.

In Oblivion, it was somewhat hard to play a full Mage in vanilla, I normally ended up going Battle Mage style with a mace until I started getting mods like Midas Magic, Supreme Magicka, Fearsome Magicka, and LAME. Without some good spell mods, you can still get powerful through using layered on weakness to magicka spells, but that always felt like exploiting the system to me.

So hopefully for Skyrim we won't need to depend too much on mods for really interesting magic.
