Game Informer Dragon Shout Update V

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:22 pm

Well I guess it's been said, but on the one hand, I love the idea of going searching for these old walls around Skyrim, should be great fun. Only the other hand, I do hope that the powers you get do not completely overshadow the main character development of skills and levelling.

The language is a great idea and well very created though with just the few core symbols from claws.

Nice update.

I just fear that our hero ends up being very powerful. And being Dragonborn also means that everyone knows who you are. And thus many factions, such as
Dark Brotherhood might be unavailable or it might be very silly to be such hero and same time being in guild like that. In Oblivion we where just sidekick and it worked.

But anyway. We are able summon dragons? And there will be 60 words, which means that there will be 60 dragons to slay.

Nope, not arbitrarily. It says you will get words from ancient walls as well.

I have to add another Collectors Edition item:

Dargonish - English | English - Dragonish

On the other hand it would be a lot of fun to really translate the texts by comparing all walls to another together with the few seed words we know from GI. ;)

Nice to get a more detailed update, but sheesh... GI's writing and designer quotes continue to seem incredibly uninspired.

" 'It is... cool. You can do this, sort of shout stuff... and... it allows you to be powerful.' Bethesda have ensured that some players will enjoy the game's very deep lore, if they like that sort of thing, maybe, also the game is impressive, there are dragon shouts and things. "

I guess it'd be too much to ask for any of their writers to actually be passionate about and invested in fantasy worlds, or you know, be Elder Scrolls fans.

Have to agree. I'm in the UK, my kids get 2 Xbox magazines, one loves rpgs ( gave Infinite Undiscovery 7/10 ), one did an article on why The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe. ( it's got stupid looking cat people ), reading both gives a more balanced view. Don't know if they paid for exclusivity, or have friends at BGS, but a second opinion would be nice.

But of course, we scandinavians will be far better to pronounce it than the rest of you - With the Nordic / Germanic cling to it.

Of course, like everything else in America, we will consume it, bastardize it into something unrecognizable, and pretend that's how it is all over the world. :P

But hey, think of it as a educational opportunity - if Bethesda gets the accents right, we will all start saying it that way. :)

I hope they keep it free of scandinavian accents xD But yea names and stuff should be said right, but that's not an accent, that's just the right way to say it :P

Although I have to admit - most of us scandinavians have a HORRIBLE English accent in turn. (But I am going play big and mighty here, since I've lived in England and thus have a proper accent :P)

Yea. this is why they should keep our horrible accents out of the game. Only names of stuff should be said as we say them, since they are names and therefore not english words :P

Who's looking forward to learn to read and speak Dragon without notes or assistance? I know I'll try. (hope they don't publicize their internal wiki)

PS. Why is "ass" in "assistance" anyway? :unsure2:

Loved this update, but apart from word walls, not much that isn't in the magazine.

Ha. Then I'm not the only one :

If I regret one thing, it's that there has not been much personal input from GI so far in the coverage. You know what I mean : discovery, going wow, debating pros and cons... Would have like something from that perspective.

What we had sounded rather cold and official - pretty much the tone of a press release (I'm looking at you,
"The vast and impressively detailed open world of Oblivion won over critics and gamers alike with cutting edge graphics, high dynamic range lighting, and the innovative Radiant AI technology that endowed non-player characters with decision-making abilities and daily routines.").

“It’s in the lore,” declares game director Todd Howard.

Good way to start. :P

Small eeh?

How can it become even smaller than it already is?

Well the only updates that weren't small IMO were the The technology behing Skyrim and the The sounds Of Skyrim and Dragon shouts.

The screen shots looked like concept art to me. The update was alright, but still not great.

I want info about the game play, I want a video, I want more game screenshots that are different than what's in game informer.

That would make a great update.

Am I the only one who's not really digging this whole dragon shout thing? I understand we're the savior of the world and all, but I'd really rather be a regular person who rises to the occasion and plays on level terms with everyone else. Not someone who's equipped with a nuclear device I can trigger whenever I'm in trouble =(

At least we'll obtain our immortality in a similar believable way that all deities in human history have:

“He is the original guy who walks the seven thousand steps and talks to the Greybeards. And the idea is, at that time, that they were so powerful they had to have all the villages flee for miles. This little kid is walking up this snowy mountain, and all these people are packed up and they’re walking down and away. Because they know the kid is going up to talk to these guys, and when they talk there’s going to be avalanches.”
 :shakehead:
