Game Informer Update: UI

Does this mean that signs like The Atronoch or The Lady are gone?

The Atronach is one of the Charges. of the Mage, as the Lady is of the Warrior. I supposse they are included in them

Sigh, no birthsigns(or new images!). I had hoped they'd change them to not affect attributes and be like a perks for the character as a whole opposed to a specific skill.
Hope they haven't removed racial traits as well..

Also it stinks to see how they don't mention how people on the PC will use the new UI. It's a multiplatform game, can't they all be supported equally by the devs and by (p)reviewers?

The inventory items in 3D do sound cool though.

I'm worried about this favorites menu. How many things can you put into a favorite? Is it only weapons/armor?

pretty sure i read somewhere that spells can be added in... i would assume any usable item can be placed in there as well.

If the Left/Right/Down on D-Pad give squad commands, I'm not worried about the quick-weapon switching.

In general, I liked what I read. I really loved “When you glance to the sky after you’ve played the game for a while, what you’re seeing in the sky is different than what somebody else is seeing based on the constellations."
That's something really smart and nice. Thumbs up for you there Bethesda :)

For perks to really work for me, I want a lot of choice, so at least the characters are customisable.

Hate the sound of the map. unexplored areas better be grayed out.

That when you choose a skill, a star will light not only in the menu, but in the game's sky as well.

It seems Birthsigns are no more, and beside that, no new info whatsoever, besides the confirmation of Quest markers, but it does say we can manage them, so theres a slim chance we can toggle them on and off.

You are what you do, remember ? Don't see how picking signs at the beginning that give you powers or bonuses fit in. Only constellations that remains are those that match the skill trees and show you your progress, I'd bet. Again, I like the new approach, but birthsigns were kind of cool.

Seriously, attributes are gone ? How do you not have speed or strength or agility ?

Eurrrh... I don't know. I would expect them to content skills of the Warrior sign itself, but having subcategories. But I'm just speculating...

What does this mean?

I'm thinking that as you continue to progress in certain skills, the stars forming their respective constellation (such as the Warrior, Mage, and Thief) will become brighter and brighter on the skills screen, representative of your character's "class". You could see a similar system in Arena/Daggerfall's character creation where these constellations would begin to appear as you answered a quiz to generate your class.

I think it means that, since perks are marked on the "perk-heaven-sky" (awesome idea Bethesda!), depending on how your character is (different people choose different perk to focus on, etc), different stars are lighted up in the "perk-heaven-sky". Together, these perks will make some sort of pattern, image - a constellation of your own. The constellation on that sky is you.

I really really love this idea :)

"Finally, pressing up in the compass menu turns your gaze up toward the heavens."

What if I want to look at my skills and perks indoors or in a dungeon? Do I still look up at the ceiling and see stars?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't get much out of this update we didn't already know about the UI. Minus, part that mentioned that Bethesda was "preserving the player's ties to the star signs", I think everything else was in the magazine. The article doesn't explain whether birthsigns or attibutes are in for sure. Could we get a little more explanation, please? Why even talk about it, if it's not properly explained. :shakehead:

Why do you all think that birthsigns are gone? They didn't mention that. The thing you see in the sky is just a visualization of your abilities, and "the thief, the warrior, and the mage" are just categories the skills are sorted by. And the characters are not so same at the beginning, races are still different

EDIT: Well, kinda ninja'd...

I hope the PC UI is gonna be completely different. Don't get me wrong, I really like some of their ideas(especially stars lighting up in the sky), but those super huge icons for skills make me sad.

Insofar it doesn't mess up my night sky. :stare: Bethesda is good at night skies. I have fond memories of having been attacked because I was standing just there craning my neck.

Welp, I didn't see any mention of attributes being in the UI, so I guess that means they're out.

Or even separate birthsigns for that matter.

I am quite the sad panda. :sadvaultboy:

Besides that, without any more pictures to go by, I'm just going to assume the UI has gone consolized again.

It's safe to say that it's confirmed that attributes are out. They wouldn't make any sense in the Inventory, Magic Items or Map menus and the Skill screen has nothing of the sort. I'm guessing that the benefits to having high attribute values will be hidden as perks in the skill constellations. It also looks like there will be an average of 10 perks per skill, so that's around 180 perks. Way more than enough to fill in the role of attributes.
As for birthsigns, I'm not so sure. They could easily add your chosen birthsign as the "19th skill constellation" in the menu much like it was in the skill list along with your factions in Morrowind. The pseudo-skill would have the birthsigns' benefits as perks.
Also of note - the UI on the PC is guaranteed to be different, if only in the respect that PC users won't have to press a direction for a menu. They'll just have different hotkeys.

Don't think of them as gone. Think of them as invisible.

And Orc just IS stronger then a Bosmer. A Khajiit is faster then a Nord.

You still pick your own Fatigue and Magika, so there is your endurance and willpower.

Intelligence? Solve the riddles/puzzles... Prove it, that is to say. Beyond that, a Master Blacksmith is sure to have something intelligent to say about blacksmithing. Such is true of any skill, as all skills flow back into attributes. It's six of one, a half dozen of the other.
