Game Informer Update: UI

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:04 pm

The Art of Skyrim would have to have been my favorite thus far. Gives an interesting insight into Bethesda's workflow and their awareness of the different stylization between games. Concept artwork has given me a lot of hope for the atmosphere of the game's towns and dungeons, and has certainly brought about a lot of interesting speculation.

Speeeeeaaarrrss...

^This, I don't believe I could elaborate any better than StoneFrog has done.

I don't see them doing the same thing that they did in the magazine. They will surely at least go in depth. I am not expecting 100 screen shots but I am confident that there will be at least one.

Yes I know you were joking.

Yeah but the screenshot will just be that one from the magazine showing the destruction skill in the menu. Hopefully they'll clear up what the deal is with attributes.

I can't decide between technology and art, as they were both excellent. :tops:

Was reading through the combat update and didn't see any mention of it. Just wondering if there has been any word yet on enemy AI improvements during combat. In OB I get so sick of seeing conjurers and the like just running around like chickens with their head cut off soon as they see you, and every archer deftly sidesteps every arrow you fling from more than 5 feet away, and never being able to hit anything with a ranged spell as they juke and dodge like spider-man on crack.

I see they are leaving the terrible stagger mechanics in, any hope that at least some changes are being made to make combat more of a challenge instead of just frustrating? I hate when developers equate frustration with challenge.

The Art of Skyrim and Combat videos were THE best ones for me. They gave us some good information and confirmed some things here and there. They also make me impatient for this game, lol! :celebration:

By far number one: Building Better Combat, simply because it shed some light on the actual mechanics of the game and how it's gonna feel.
Number two: The Sounds of Skyrim. Loved the theme.
Number three: either Translating the Cover, because of the sheer intrigue of the language being in the game, or Technology of Skyrim, cause it indicated improvements to animations.

When's the next update going to be?

Sometime today. No idea what time yet, but it's happening today.

EDIT: You'll know it's close whenever there's over 150 users reading this topic.

combat and the thing about better animations

these were always the weakest points in ES games so I was glad to see them getting a good enhancement

Well, there's room for two more on the hub. I conjecture that there will be another one in a month, the enigmatic "video with an 'R' in it".

Not the last update, but the last hubdate.

Unless the other speculated hubdate still looks good, then yes. Today's hubdate shall be the last.

I bet Andrew will be happy about it too. No more people constantly pestering him about Skyrim anymore.

Where's the option for every single update being a rehash of things we already know or had already seen?

Since non of the updates have addressed any of my three main concerns (dx11, werewolves, armor slots) i'd say behind the scenes.

Every update went much, much farther in depth in each of their subjects. I see no reason for an option like that.

I dread for this update, namely because it might be related to fast travel.

Although I would be greatly relieved if it said in the update "After seeing so many threads of people wanting more of a Morrowind-like fast travel system on the official Skyrim forums, Bethesda decided to scrap Oblivion's fast travel and add a new version similar to Morrowind's fast travel; where you have to go to specific services to pay for travels to specific towns."

I do think we will see/read something of fast travel, but i doubt were gonna get your hope there :/

Im hoping we get a pic of it in-game, im interested to see how its been implemented.

I thought it was confirmed awhile ago that Oblivion style (or rather, more Fallout 3 style) fast travel is still in.

They haven't confirmed any Morrowind like options, but I do hope they include them.

What I'm worried about the most with this update is if the UI has been consolized again. I mean from what I've seen of the Skill menu in the article, it looks that way. Hell, it even looks like it'll be annoying to use on the consoles.

I'll bring this point up again. How is

[skill][skill][skill]

Better than

[skill]
[skill]
[skill]

Judging by http://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/29991439861551104, I expect we will see a bit more info about the AI as well, if not today then perhaps next week.

EDIT: I hope people don't turn this topic into yet another fast travel rant thread

Mixed feelings on what we know of the UI. Summoning a compass element and then pointing in one of four directions is pretty accessible - it's like the verb coin systems used in later LucasArts adventure games. I do agree wholeheartedly about how impractically arranged the skills are, though. Let's hope it's as easy to mod as Oblivion's was.

EDIT: DO YOU HEAR THAT STEVEMEISTER? :P
