Game Informer Update Today IV

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:15 am

Wow, that was a superb update. The dragon shouts sound pretty awesome, though I'm a little wary about eventually being able to summon a dragon. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out in-game.

Thats what he said.

Is it? I got the impression that he was saying what I said, except even after saying all three words you then have to still hold it to get to level 2 then 3. So, you say
Fus...Ro...Dah!...*Hold*....*Hold* that's what I thought he was saying.

Which doesn't answer the most basic questions : a ) Can I keep it ? b ) Can I name it ? c ) Can Bethesda get Stephen Fry to voice it?

Traditionally only Nords used Thu'um right? It would seem to me odd to have the other races able to do it (as you can choose any of the 10 races).

I guess it's not purely Nord-specific.

Where did you see that ? That seems unlikely ; it would mean that for being able to learn a shout, you must kill a dragon. Tedious much ! And that would mean 60 dragons in-game? There were less Oblivion gates, and it felt you couldn't move for the things.

I kinda thought that this would be more, after - say - five shouts learned, you are compelled to kill a dragon to be able learn more, something like that.

It says "upon defeating a dragon, skyrim's hero absorbs the soul of the fallen creature, which fuels his ability to LEARN a new shout". I interpret that as every dragon slain unlocks a "slot" to learn a shout.

This whole dragon shout thing reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TPQYoX-z0o from Dune.

I know beggars can't be choosers and all that, but is anyone else as disappointed as I am that virtually everything we have seen of the game is concept art? I'd really like to see more in the way of screenshots.

Yes and no. It was/is a Nordic thing but that doesn't mean those of other races cannot learn it

Who/what is that in the concept art on the first page? Is that even a person? Looks like someone dressed in a black cloak?

Hmm. Not the 60 words, the 20 shouts. So that would make at least 20 dragons. I can work with that, was not far from what I theorized (one dragon-soul every five dragon-words).

Sorry for the confusion between words and shouts.

So exploration is more important than before since you get to look for dragon scripts on walls. Woot!
Also, 20 total shouts? I hope they all sound unqiue from each other one.

I'd think they would have the shours recorded differently for each race and six(not sure if this was confirmed or hinted at, I remember reading somehthing about voce reocrding). So there should be 20 possible voices for the shouts, and you're character would use just one.

This might be the most important detail so far. Having a voice for dragon shouts but being mute in dialogue becomes weird and the old "I don't wanna hear my character because I won't like the voice and it breaks immersion" principle will be obsolete. This change is BIG

Read the book - its kills over the movie and I like the movie

More on topic - I thought the first page was a screen shot - am I wrong?

“There are other people in the world who can use the dragon shouts, but it’s very rare. It’s like arcane knowledge. It used to be done more in the past,” Howard explains. “The Greybeards know it. But your ability to absorb the dragon souls and do the shouts on the level that you can is beyond them.”

From the article. Your character is probably another one sent/blessed/reincarnated by the Gods like the Nerevarine.

It says "upon defeating a dragon, skyrim's hero absorbs the soul of the fallen creature, which fuels his ability to LEARN a new shout". I interpret that as every dragon slain unlocks a "slot" to learn a shout.

And it's worth noting that there will be around 20 complete shouts - there will be around 60 words. It sounded more to me like you learn words from reading them on walls covered in runes.

Maybe the word won't "stand out" from amongst all the other runes if you haven't killed enough dragons, and don't enough slots to learn another shout???
