Game Informer Update Today IV

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:44 am

Ignoring the fact that we don't have many screenshots......emmm.....Bethesda...Game Informer....could you at least give us the 2 screenshots published in a decent size?...i mean...c'mon its pretty small.
I have a 22" LCD monitor that demands a good wallpaper :P.

is the first pic a screen shot? The rest look like art.
I know beggars can't be choosers and all that, but is anyone else as disappointed as I am that virtually everything we have seen of the game is concept art? I'd really like to see more in the way of screenshots.

The first picture is a screenshot, it was in the actual magazine.

how will a kajiit or aragonian fit into the lore as a dragonblood?

Doesn't make sense to me either.

They said "three levels" each shout have. I don't get it. I thought you had to speak all three words of a shout to get the attack/bonus?
probablly mean you can upgrade them twice after getting the Shouts.

This might be the most important detail so far. Having a voice for dragon shouts but being mute in dialogue becomes weird and the old "I don't wanna hear my character because I won't like the voice and it breaks immersion" principle will be obsolete. This change is BIG

Not if the pronunciation is guttural...you know...draconic. Then you only need one voice actor for each six, the same way they voice the PCs groans and grunts.

How will they not? At no point have they said Dragonborn = Nord. Or Draganborn = Septim. The Septims were the last line of Dragonborns. We don't *know* how one comes to be a Dragonborn. We will find it in a later update or when we play the game.

Okay so, how are these shouts going to be balanced?

I don't want to be a low-level character and be able to kill things I shouldn't be able to yet because I have dragon shouts.
then dont learn them.

I want some actual Screenshots!!!

You got one in this new article, sheesh give people and inch....

Can′t wait to see those draugrs. They must be cool as hell

They are in the GI magazine, remind me of the liches from Oblivion. Very cool!

Hmm. Not the 60 words, the 20 shouts. So that would make at least 20 dragons. I can work with that, was not far from what I theorized (one dragon-soul every five dragon-words).

Sorry for the confusion between words and shouts.

20 TES dragons is a scary thought, this is not some MMO where they are just a grindable mob. Each one should be quite the experience.

how will a kajiit or aragonian fit into the lore as a dragonblood?

What's more appropriate then a "dragon born" lizard man?! :P It's the same deal with the Nerevarine in Morrowind.

This might be the most important detail so far. Having a voice for dragon shouts but being mute in dialogue becomes weird and the old "I don't wanna hear my character because I won't like the voice and it breaks immersion" principle will be obsolete. This change is BIG

Not necessarily, just because the sound comes from your character doesn't mean it's going to sound like a racial voice. I have this ideal about them being something like a sonic boom sound for the loud ones. It's not just like the character is screaming at the top of their lungs lol! Hell make it sound like a dragon please, no yelling bosmer!

The actual magazine had screenshots and concept art. I hope that the game looks as good as that 1st pic, but I am pretty sure that is concept art.

This is an excellent update, because, as others have mentioned, it shows that there's a strong design focus on integrating the lore into the gameplay. It's a very good sign that a large portion of the marketing campaign is devoted to telling us about the lore; IIRC, most of the hype around Oblivion was about the better gameplay mechanics and graphics.

When I first heard about dragons in ESV, I was a little concerned that they would just feature because of a "cool" element. I'm still pretty sure that BGS wanted to put them in partly for that aspect, but it's pleasing that they are putting a lot of effort into integrating dragons into the gameworld. We've got the Dragonborn, the Greybeards, High Hrothgar, Tiber Septim, the dragon language, dragon shouts, etc. We're seeing a fairly richly connected set of cultural themes and historical events, and it looks like these will make a significant difference to the gameplay and the sorts of quests we'll get.

What is not clear, however, is how all this ties in to the Akatosh-wanting-to-eat-the-world main storyline... But maybe I don't want to know about that until I play the game.

What srk said!!
This is a GREAT update!
Looks like Beth have taken great efforts to use the lore, want consistency, want to build on it and add depth to their game world.
Love the world exploration vibe this update gives off!!

Also, thank you Beth for focusing on the fans by using Game Informer hub to release information - quite a contrast to the Oblivion launch - I Like.
Well done - this game is looking better and better.

I'm officially excited now. And I'd like to take a moment to compliment those concept artists. The artwork looks fantastic. Especially the one in the first page, excellent lighting and mood.

As a fellow artist, I also enjoyed the previous update with the painting time-lapse, very skilled painter. Kudos! :celebration:

No, the three levels are the three words. As in. level one would be Fus. Level two is Fus Ro. Level three is Fus Ro Dah. They say the shouts get more powerful as you learn each word of the shout. At least that's how I understand it.
