Game Informer Update Today

Post » Sun Feb 27, 2011 11:07 am

Someone said (Pete Hines I think) in reply to a question about armour that what works for Fallout doesn't always work for Elder Scrolls. I think he was saying that there won't be one piece armours.

Exactly.

Really happy to see the inclusion of decals, scarrs, facepaint and many more concepts that have spears/pole-arms in them :) I really hope that they arent having fallout style clothing and amour (One piece)...that would ruin the game for me <_<

Pete said they are making an elder scrolls game. NOT a fallout game!

My guess is that the NPC with the Halberd in the 1st shot holding the head is the Executioner since the top corner with the words is cut off then seen later

That's an axe. The woman in elvenish armor has a halberd.

The elven armor looks fantastic in this game (not just concept, but also the screen shots from in-game). Overall armor appears to be more stylized and more detailed than it was in Oblivion. Can't wait to see more!

What?

Loomis Proportion study. Its a guide for doing people in proper proportions. Its just an art aid for the artist, so he has some references on hand when he is doing characters. The modelers/character artists could be using difference proportions(and probably are for various races.

Map was better than the first video with Todd

All 5 major cities are clearly visible along with several towns, also see the cities where the Rebels and the Empire will have influence/control.

If that is an axe it is close to 6 feet tall. If that is a useable axe in game then I am definately killing that guy to take his axe.

If that is an axe it is close to 6 feet tall. If that is a useable axe in game then I am definately killing that gut to take his axe.

It's definitely meant to be a two-handed axe based on the length of the blade. Halberds don't have blades that long, it would make them top heavy and incredibly difficult to control.

Not sure if it's been pointed out before, but I'm fairly certain that the statue artwork in the video was of Mara. I tried to get a really careful look of it in the video. It seems to say http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv175/Proditus/Mara_Statue.jpg for the filename. If you would like some sort of better reference, http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv175/Proditus/Mara_StatueHeader.jpg is what it would look like in better quality, taken from Photoshop. You can match them up to see if they look similar.

As for all that art, I think it looks fantastic. Especially that statue. I really love the art direction they've taken in depicting the gods. Considering Alduin's role as a threat to existence, it's really fitting. It looks very dark and foreboding. I would like to get a bunch of those pictures on his wall in wallpaper resolution so I can make a good desktop slideshow montage of them all :P

Its clearly an axe. It looks nothing like the halberd that woman is holding.

BTW, does the pic of the guy holding a Decapitated head mean more gore?

I believe they've already confirmed more gore, though I don't know if it's on the Fallout decapitation level. We'll need gameplay for that :P

the art looks great... lets just hope its not all JUST art!

i'd love to see spears/halberds come back, and i wonder if we can really decapitate enemies... concept art can be so deceiving!

Did anyone else notice the concept art for the Argonian (around 2:19, left of the picture with the dragon) I can't quite tell if it has beast feet or not though...

BGS said they are using the loomis study?

Its just a proportion guide, done by Andrew Loomis. Most professional artists keep a library of books, guides, and sheets as references.

They didn't say that, the concept artist has it up on the wall behind his monitor. Its not a big deal though really, its just a reference sheet for him. Just like he has a book on vikings as well... but it doesn't mean that BGS has said "this is our official guide!"

If you are interested in that kind of thing, you can find it here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/255814/Andrew-Loomis-Figure-Drawing

I like gore, but Fallout's gore was a bit over the top I think. Well it suits the game fine, but in an Elder Scrolls game you just want it to look more natural.

I don't recall seeing any elven screenshots from the snippets of info that we've had so far, but yeah, the concept art does look cool.

I wonder whether we'll see the return of the 'classic' glass and the daedric armour sets? A lot of the art before today's update has stressed the Nordic armour sets - fur 'n' chainmail stuff. I'd be happy if they concentrated on this and ditched the glass etc.

Armour like http://www.northwestmuseum.org/userfiles/image/Out_of_this_World/Highlander_furponcho.jpgwould be more in keeping with Nordic tradition.

So you want no glass?
