Game isn't as bad as I thought

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:02 pm

Even with my http://i52.tinypic.com/nxkvax.jpg I seem to be running it at Medium settings and I have encountered some lag [only twice] that made me quit and find a new server but that's not a huge deal. I had much bigger lag issues in BF BC2. But there I was running my tower and much higher specs and stable T3 so I'm not sure what all that lag was about.

I expected this game to be a steaming pile but I like it a lot. A few things I don't like that I want to mention though

1. medics act like soldiers, i've been rezzed a handful of times despite playing 2 days worth of time. pretty aggravating to be dying and all medics run past ya.

2. some weapons [the tower unlock rifle i believe] is way OP and I've gotten 1-shotted several times and not in the head.

3. mad spawn [censored] on some maps like the container map where one side has the high land advantage and the other side spawns down near the sea and has to fight upwards just to get out of spawn.

4. Maybe they exist but I've not seen them: servers for helping with completing challenges to unlock attachments. some challenges [not the parkour one] are really hard. I get 1-shotted constantly and I'm not rushing into it, trying to cautious yet fast, it's really hard. are there servers to help with these challenges?

I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10.

The game's new, so the concept of teamwork 24/7 is hard to grasp. It'll be better soon, when people learn to be better teammates, and the bad teammates leave.

2. some weapons [the tower unlock rifle i believe] is way OP and I've gotten 1-shotted several times and not in the head. I'm going to assume you mean the Barnett. Yeah, that is a touch OP - I hear a bodyshot does 125 damage - Lights have 120 and medium 140.

3. mad spawn [censored] on some maps like the container map where one side has the high land advantage and the other side spawns down near the sea and has to fight upwards just to get out of spawn.

I'm wondering why you bought the game when you were thinking it was going to be a steaming pile of sh*t. The logic in that is beyond my comprehension.

Anyway...the medic thing you speak of...give it time. Along with several other things that will improve over time. This is a team game and the average "gamer" knows nothing about teamwork in a game since the average "gamer" now days thinks the COD series is the definition of a strategical shooter. Eventually (no later than November I'm sure) those who can adapt to a team based game will get it and those who can't will move on to something else when they realize this just isn't for them.

Anyway, stick it out! If you like the game, hold onto the fact that it will eventually get better as more people start to understand it and the ones who don't will leave. I'm thinking this really will be a great game once it reaches it's full potential. In the meantime just make the most out of it that you can....it will get better.

Meh, It has its downside as well. Not a lot of ammo and takes a while to shoot. I don't mind it existing. I don't think the guns are that imbalanced, I have more of a general problem with the limited variety of weapons, they all feel a lot alike.

Oh, and I want you to guess how I was able to quote you with the correct time. :P

@ Rammite

Why do you jump to the comclusion that the people who dont rez are jerks that either intentionally leave you hanging or just do not know how to play as a team. There is always the huge possibility that they just simply ran out of supplies. -_-

Yeah I thought of that Shingi

I bought the game because I watched a ton @ GameAnyone and I need more steam games for my lapotp

DLC better come out soon, game is getting pretty stale. I'm only played for 3 days off and on and I'm already lv 12

How can the game already be getting stale for you when you are on your first character and are only level twelve? You still have plenty of skills to unlock, not to mention that im sure sure that since this is your first character you have not used that may skills. I am in the process of leveling four different characters and let me tell you that each is very unique and useful in their own way. trust me you have much left to explore so the game should not be getting stale for you.

Although I do understand how the game might be getting repetitive in the map category. But fear not!! SD already anounce the first DLC coming out next month. And it including a whooping THREE new maps. Oh...and did i mention... it is FREE

I don't think the Barnett is OP. You get 12 rounds which can be 12 kills. But often you'll find enemies with battlehardened (only Lights can be OHincapped with a headshot then) and often with CP or medic buffs on top.
Also the hitboxes are very, very accurate. I had several occasions now where I could take my time on a sitting opponent and still miss his head by ~ one pixel.

The bullets are nerfed a lot just so SD can say there are no 1-shot kills. A headshot should always kill I don't care what you say, esp from a rifle or sniper
Drives me nuts to shoot in the head twice and no kill

Real life makes for boring video games. Why do you think Operation Flashpoint titles always fall flat with gamers? Although a certain amount of realism can make games much more engrossing and exciting, making real life simulations will never sell well because real life is boring!

With that said...headshots kill with one shot much more often IRL than they do in this game which happens....NEVER!

I don't think they are overpowered... the reload time on the Barnett is crazy long. However, I put the silencer on, so as I can take two shots before being completed noticed. Did anyone else notice it is REALLY HARD to hide in this game?

Yes, but as was said, games aren't real life... Splash Damage actually commented on the sniping. They said they didn't want new/novice players to try to have fun using SMART and getting used to the game, but can't because they keep getting sniped from a distance. SD also said that there are plenty of other FPSs you can go and snipe in, but in Brink you should just try to branch out a bit with gameplay.

By it not having HS kill they are flouting a basic gameplay element of shooters. That doesn't make them unique, it makes them [censored].

It's not that the game is bad, it's that the game isn't great, like everyone expected it to be :x
BRINK is a middle of the road shooter. It's not a block buster.

1 shot kill headshot is a basic gameplay element of TWITCH shooters. This is meant to be a more team based thinking shooter, not a bodycount tallier.

lol, you may be right about that but they still don't go running around as if nothing happened. The headshots I expect to work effectively are sniper head shots and close quarters head shots (from any weapon).

Every PC gamer I pitch the game to and who buys it, loves the game. Yes, there have been issues (mostly the sound issues), but Ive not played a shooter that doesnt have some kind of major problem that needs patching. I think the real reason for some of the bad rap BRINK has received is that many gamers and reviewers dont get the gameplay or concept of a team based objective oriented FPS. Thats partly why these forums are constantly bombarded with requests for TDM or CTF modes. BRINK breaks from the trends in shooters and as a result its left a portion of the shooter market scratching their heads - while the rest of us realize just how much better this game is than other shooters released in the last few years.

if you havent played that much you will be playing with other lower ranking players, so the medics will all be noobs too. they also might not have many medic abilities or pips for supply. once you play more you will find some decent medics (i hope i qualify for that)

remember we dont all have infitite pips, you often use them up very quickly. i just wish you could easily see when a medic is out of supplies. i will often wait and crouch near you while i recharge, but sometimes you just cant.

i know what you mean about the one hit kills. they told us it wouldnt happen so im not sure. and at times i know they havent headshot me. hopefully snipers will get nerfed as many of us think sniping is a bit lame for fast paced fps. if you want to hide and snipe play cod or bc2 :) to me brink is much more like the old school fast paced shooters.

i agree container can get spawn [censored] a bit too easily but ive only been on the recieving end once. maybe our soldiers just took too long to get the gate open? once its open its a fair map.

the challenges you really want to do single player, on your own with bots.

you could say the same about taking 20 shots from an smg to the chest and still live :)

i think one hit kills even with a buff should only happen to lights to the head. remember this is supposed to be a fast paced FUN shooter. not a camping sniper fest. if you want that play pretty much any other game. i played a round on a map yesterday when all the opposition had snipers and were camping the objective. that just requires zero skill.

but then you also get killed with pray and spray. i say make people require more hits to kill them. it prolongs battles and means more fun.

When I play my Medic character and I run out of pips, I run straight into a fire fight and try to bring down a few enemies with me when I die. That way I respawn with full pips.

The only time I don't do this is if the fight is overly far from the spawn or if we are defending an area pretty well and I know I'll have time to recharge.

If it's an objective where my side is assaulting a position, I'll always kamikaze when I run out of pips.
