Game keeps crashing to desktop please HELP!

Post » Thu Apr 02, 2015 2:31 am

Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I'm having trouble with my game. Alright, so my Skyrim crashes to the desktop right after the icon apears when the loading screen starts. I have about 140 mods, and have tried unactivating them all, besides the Update.esm. I don't have any dlc so that shouldnt be a problem. But the game still crashes even with just update.esm on. Is something worng with my files maybe, or my ini's? I haven't changed them recently. I seriously have no idea how to fix this. My drivers are up to date and my audio is set to below 48000hz.. anything else? any ideas? please help if you can, thanks in advance. Also, I even deleted my saves and am starting a new game, still CTD's

Does this happen when you load an existing save or when you click on "new"? Did you verify the integrity of the game cache in Steam?

No, I can't get to the lood/new page, I CTD right before that, when the skyrim logo appears with the black screen. How exactly do I verify the integrity of the game cache?

In Steam, right click on Skyrim, go down to "properties"; then go to the "local files" tab and click on the "verify integrity of game cache" button.

Sounds like a missing master. maybe one of your mods requires one of the DLCs? Try watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPwiY7NBVTM for details.

You know that's not a good idea to watch a video for NMM, because only LOOT and Wrye Bash can handle a loadorder properly.

Here is a better http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/35230 about how to manage your loadorder in Wrye Bash and I know this guide is basically for Oblivion, but most things are similar for Skyrim too.

Another tool that's essential to learn is TES5Edit at least for mod cleaning and http://www.theassimilationlab.com/forums/topic/14507-guide-manual-cleaning-skyrim-master-files/ is an excellent Skyrim masters cleaning guide.

He wrote that he unactivated all files, besides the original .esm-s. That's definitely not a missing master.

Exactly, also I use both LOOT and TES5edit frequently and am fairly comfortable using them. I always check that my mods do not need any dlc before installing them but like I said I've disabled all mods, so they shouldn't be causing the CTD's right? Thanks for the help so far guys, I hope this gets fixed, I want to play really bad haha

I will go ahead and try verifying the integrity of the files. Anything I need to save before that? Will it erase any of my files or mods? I'll make copies of my ini's as well

Ok so the verify integrity couldn't find 2 files and so it reacquired them. Now my question is, since I still have all my mods and skse, and all that, I just reactivate them?

Try starting the game before that.
