Game locks up on death of certain creatures.

Post » Sat Mar 27, 2010 8:31 am

The music/sound will still play perfectly fine, but the whole game freezes otherwise.

This is nearly everytime when killing Slaughterfish, Cliffracers and Nix Hound. Immediately when their health reaches 0.

I cannot tab-out or use task manager, the mouse is "stuck" inside the game still and will not move out. Keys don't do anything...

I'm basically forced to reset the PC everytime, disable these creatures with the console everytime I encounter to them or hope to god they won't cause the error.

This was alittle after adding "Better Music System" mod, I think it may be something to do with combat music, but I have used a mod function to have it disabled.

If you think it has to do with that mod, then you should get rid of every file associated with that mod to be sure.

This thing happens to me now and then, while fighting, not just on PC but on Xbox, too. Is the music still playing, or is it just a loop of the last few notes before the game froze? Becuase if the music is still playing, then it's not frozen, it's just being super-slow.

Music plays like normal gameplay.

It's like it's loading something......... For just about ever.

Funny thing is I can occasionally kill these creatures without problems, Slaughterfish are the worst chance-wise, but once a specific creature gets corrupted or whatever the rest in that immediate zone or nearby zones of the same kind are wacked.

I'm not the most knowledgeable on this, but sometimes when you pass between cells, it'll stall. And you do move around between cells, when you fight, especially if it takes place on a border.

And if you're swinging your weapon, or your enemy is dying right as you pass into a new cell the game can stall for a real long time. You can be sitting there for a few minutes before it catches up with itself and it may seem like it froze.

If it's happening often, something is really taxing your processor and making the game slow. Sometimes lowering your view distance in the options menu will take care of stalling. Try that and also try removing that music mod or any big texture mods.

And, if you have other programs running in the background, especially those obnoxious adware things that start up right when you turn on the computer, they can slow it down, too.

I think the logical thing to do is disable your mods and start from the ground up looking for the problem.
This is why I play on the Xbox.

I used to get a CTD when hit by certain spells due to a problem with the sound (a modded one mind you). Try modifying your sound options. If it's hardware accelerated, try setting it to software accelerated, or vise versa. It fixed my problem a while ago.

A few others have reported this same problem with Census and Excise. I may have solved it, though I am awaiting confirmation from a few testers.

ZesvotzashniSinkunndaijari, you should probably post your load list (in order). As Ranchester pointed out, there are some mods which have been associated with the 'freeze on hit' phenomenon. It would be extremely helpful if this issue could be narrowed down to a particular script rather than individual mods, which could then be repaired, but we have to start somewhere and load list is usually the beginning.

For help with mod problems its really essential that you post your mod list and the contents of your warnings.txt, http://www.mwmythicmods.com/starting.htm#6.

If you believe it to be Xiran's mod then what happens if you disable that mod? Are you using the latest version (1.5)? Do you meet all the prerequisites? i.e. MWSE 0.9.4 (or MGE 3.5.6 or later with internal MWSE enabled), Tribunal, Bloodmoon.

In almost all the cases I was in oudoor cells, so this is probably true in a few of those cases.

One case was a slaughterfish inside a shipwreck usually I load indoor cells 10x quicker.

That's funny, I have that mod too.

1. I havn't tried disabling it yet, now that I look at some of the other posts, I don't really think it Xiran's mod specifically anymore.
2. Of what? His mod? No, I only have v111, never knew there was a new one.
3. MGE3.8.1-rev.0124, I'm pretty sure it has internal MWSE as those kind of mods (I have a bunch) work fine.

I'd suggest getting http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7899 of Xiran's mod, one of the fixes is "There was a chance of CTD killing and disposing of certain enemies (see the readme for more info) before Battle Music stopped, and when a summoned creature disappeared before having killed, fixed." So, not a lock-up but it might help out.

The version of MGE you have will be fine, just make sure you don't also run external MWSE at the same time as MGE's built-in version.

I ran your modlist through mlox, there're few things it picks up:

As to some of your errors:
Script 'DaveNoSporeGunCheck1' is not allowed on Ammo 'Temp_dummyShell'.
This could be from "DwemerFireGunV1.2 Scripted.esp", looks like there's a new version (see mlox output), that might fix it
Unable to find referenced object "TC_CEDoorInner" in script TC_CEShipDockScript.
Not sure where this one is from
Expression Error: SYNTAX in ab01algMainScript.Set expression returned an error.
I think this is from abot's Where Are All Birds Going (at least that script name appears in my copy), double-check you've got the latest version (1.13, I think)

Oh, one last thing. With that number of mods bear in mind that you can't have more than 255 ESM, ESP and ESS files. ESS files are your saves so you might need to do some housekeeping in the future to ensure that you don't have more than 22 save games in your Saves directory.

[Edit: typos]

Just a minor correction on this. The ess files are only counted when they are active, and you can only have one active at a time. You can have as many as you want in the directory. I always save to a new file and have had several hundred in there with no problem.

eep. Thanks for the correction, Fliggerty. Although I have seen some posts where people start getting weird errors when the number of save files in their Saves directory starts getting to large numbers. I'd guess on your experience it must be many hundreds.

OK I went through and updated all of the out of date mods, deleted all the pointless conflicting or incompatible duplicates, cleaned everything with Enchanted Editor and swapped the load order around a bit...

I haven't tried it yet but it should be alittle more stable/organized than before, atleast that's the theory.

Pretty much the only concern left is Cesus and Excise Office.esp, I guess I'll just wait for the newer version when it comes.
