Game Maxing My VRAM?

Post » Sat Apr 13, 2013 6:08 am

Hey, I noticed since reinstalling Skyrim and Dawnguard/Dragonborn that my game has been stuttering quite a lot. I used a few different methods to monitor my vram and noticed I was using 800-1000mb the whole game and my card kept having to dump every 10 seconds. I am NOT using the DLC textures at all, when I use those it uses all my vram from the start and stutters like crazy and may even crash. I am running at ULTRA with lower quality shadows and no AA or FXAA for testing. My average framerate is between 55-60, the lowest being only when I stutter. I have no performance issue running the game with my i5 and 560ti, just the textures are taking way too much vram and it never did this in the past. Any idea whats going on?

i5 @ 3.2ghz
560 ti 1gb (no OC)
8gb ram

Thanks

Go into the INI files, both the Default and the one in My Games, also in I think this is in the Prefs file too

Go to SkyrimPrefs.ini and change bMouseAcceleration=1 to bMouseAcceleration=0.

While poking around in those files, set the gamepad Rumble to off (which should be 0, but read the line to see if that turns it off.

If this does not fix it, then you will want to actually clamp the FPS to a lower value. You don't want this game running more than 56 to 58 FPS anyway as other problems pop up.

The Anitlag is where you set the frame rate, values of 36 to 50 give great performance in this game. You want this as low as possible, which sounds counter intuitive, but once the play in game is smooth to you that is what you want. For me, I have mine set to 40 and the game never even wiggles.
