Game mechanic changes as lore

I've been doing a lot of research into the more metaphysical aspects of the lore recently, specifically the Towers and CHIM and their effects on reality. As I was reading up on how the Towers can change the local regional reality it struck me. Until now I have thought of each installment of TES as different because game design changes and old mechanics go by the wayside as new technology becomes available but, what if it didn't? What if the mechanics of each game, the way that the player controls their character to interact with the environment, were different not because of game development changes but rather a change in how reality was altered from place to place and from time period to time period?

I know others have probably come to this conclusion before so I want to ask, am I on the right track or completely off base? Or am I just over thinking this? I hope I'm not because I think it raises some interesting questions of how and why things would be so different. Would a person traveling from Vvardenfell to Cyrodiil in the late 3rd era notice the way that his magicka now regenerated? Would he have to relearn how to use magic or would he even notice that he can now hold a sword and shield and cast a spell at the same time? Why does health regenerate in the 4th era? What happened between Martin's last stand and the last Dragonborn's adventures enabled people to jump or jog without becoming tired? There are just so many questions.
