Game minimizes to desktop but doesn't crash

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 6:25 am

My game will regularly bounce out of full screen mode to the desktop. The game is still active - it seems to automatically open the pause/save/settings menu when this happens. I can reopen the game by clicking on the icon on the task bar and it seems stable. Occasionally it returns in a lowered resolution/shrunken screen. I can press the windows button on my keyboard to go out/back in and this resolves. Ultimately this hasn't lead to stability isssues or gotten me killed in game or anything like that. Its just kind of annoying.

I'm not accidentally hitting the windows button. I've let it sit a minute when this happens to see if some other thing is running in the background and popping up with a window...nothing. I have disabled antivirus, ensured nothing else is running (that I can tell) and it still happens. Not sure why this happens and after poking around the net I only saw one other report of the same phenomenon.

Any ideas?

Something is running and taking focus from the game. Try a strict clean boot and see what happens.

The only thing besides the game that you should have running is Steam.

If you have a wireless keyboard, try changing out the batteries.

I had issues like this with one or two games in the past.

What is sad, for life of me I can't recall how I fixed as I type this.

All I recall it was something stupid in background or something Windows was doing.

I'll find more coffee and mull it over and see if I can recall more details.

THanks for the input. I did consider the keyboard issue, but the batteries are pretty new. I'll try the clean boot. My guess was AVG (it likes to do things even if you disable it) or some dumb updater or something.

I get the same thing happening too. Shrunken screen or different resolution - yeh good fun hey.

I have Skype and other things running, I'm not sure if they affect it. Could be.
